Combination of Searches for Resonant Higgs Boson Pair Production Using p p Collisions at s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS Detector

A combination of searches for a new resonance decaying into a Higgs boson pair is presented, using up to 139 fb − 1 of p p collision data at s = 13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The combination includes searches performed in three decay channels: b b ¯ b b ¯ , b b ¯ τ + τ − , and b b ¯ γ γ . No excess above the expected Standard Model background is observed and upper limits are set at the 95% confidence level on the production cross section of Higgs boson pairs originating from the decay of a narrow scalar resonance with mass in the range 251 GeV–5 TeV. The observed (expected) limits are in the range 0.96–600 fb (1.2–390 fb). The limits are interpreted in the type-I two-Higgs-doublet model and the minimal supersymmetric standard model, and constrain parameter space not previously excluded by other searches. © 2024 CERN, for the ATLAS Collaboration 2024 CERN

Searches for exclusive Higgs boson decays into D *$\gamma$ and Z boson decays into D 0 $\gamma$ and K $^{0}_{s}$$\gamma$ in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

Searches for exclusive decays of the Higgs boson into D*$\gamma$ and of the Z boson into D 0 $\gamma$ and K$_{s}^{0}$$\gamma$ can probe flavour-violating Higgs boson and Z boson couplings to light quarks. Searches for these decays are performed with a pp collision data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 136.3 fb -1 collected at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13TeV between 2016–2018 with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. In the D*$\gamma$ and D 0 $\gamma$ channels, the observed (expected) 95% confidence-level upper limits on the respective branching fractions are B(H→D*$\gamma$) < 1.0(1.2)×10 -3 , B(Z→D 0 $\gamma$) < 4.0(3.4)×10 -6 , while the corresponding results in the K$_{s}^{0}$$\gamma$ channel are B(Z→K$_{s}^{0}$$\gamma$) < 3.1(3.0)×10 -6 .

Combination of searches for pair-produced leptoquarks at s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

A statistical combination of various searches for pair-produced leptoquarks is presented, using the full LHC Run 2 (2015–2018) data set of 139 fb -1 collected with the ATLAS detector from proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV. All possible decays of the leptoquarks into quarks of the third generation and charged or neutral leptons of any generation are investigated. Since no significant deviations from the Standard Model expectation are observed in any of the individual analyses, combined exclusion limits are set on the production cross-sections for scalar and vector leptoquarks. The resulting lower bounds on leptoquark masses exceed those from the individual analyses by up to 100 GeV, depending on the signal hypothesis.

Performance of the ATLAS forward proton Time-of-Flight detector in Run 2

We present performance studies of the Time-of-Flight (ToF) subdetector of the ATLAS Forward Proton (AFP) detector at the LHC. Efficiencies and resolutions are measured using high-statistics data samples collected at low and moderate pile-up in 2017, the first year when the detectors were installed on both sides of the interaction region. While low efficiencies are observed, of the order of a few percent, the resolutions of the two ToF detectors measured individually are 21 ps and 28 ps, yielding an expected resolution of the longitudinal position of the interaction, z vtx , in the central ATLAS detector of 5.3 ± 0.6 mm. This is in agreement with the observed width of the distribution of the difference between z vtx , measured independently by the central ATLAS tracker and by the ToF detector, of 6.0 ± 2.0 mm.
