Nonconvex Two-Stage Robust Optimization of an Amine-Based CO2 Capture System

These summary slides highlight uncertainty and technical risk reduction capabilities in CCSI2, with a focus on robust optimization. PyROS is used to obtain robust system designs of a MEA-based CO2 absorber under uncertainty in the thermodynamic property models for a variety of CO2 capture rate threshold requirements.

Optimal Long-term Operation of SOEC Systems

This presentation was delivered at the 2023 AICHE Annual Meeting. This presentation would focus on dynamic optimization of solid oxide cell systems with due consideration of chemical degradation over the cell lifetime. A multi-scale dynamic optimization algorithm is solved and found to yield superior results compared to the constant voltage or constant H2 production operation approaches.

Status Update on NETL Techno-Economic Analysis of Solid Oxide Cells

This is a presentation delivered at the Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Project Review Meeting portion of the 2023 FECM / NETL Spring R&D Project Review Meeting on April 19, 2023. The presentation highlights recently completed techno-economic analysis of solid oxide cell systems including a brief overview of pairing SOFC technology with energy storage, an analysis of the tradeoffs associated with reversible SOC technology versus paired SOFC/SOEC, and highlights of the recently released NGFC and IGFC pathway studies. A more detailed description of analysis conducted on hydrogen fueled SOFC systems is also included.

Air Force electrochemical power research and technology program for space applications

An overview is presented of the existing Air Force electrochemical power, battery, and fuel cell programs for space application. Present thrusts are described along with anticipated technology availability dates. Critical problems to be solved before system applications occur are highlighted. Areas of needed performance improvement of batteries and fuel cells presently used are outlined including target dates for key demonstrations of advanced technology. Anticipated performance and current schedules for present technology programs are reviewed. Programs that support conventional military satellite power systems and special high power applications are reviewed. Battery types include bipolar lead-acid, nickel-cadmium, silver-zinc, nickel-hydrogen, sodium-sulfur, and some candidate advanced couples. Fuel cells for pulsed and transportation power applications are discussed as are some candidate advanced regenerative concepts.
