Hydraulic-Leak Detector for Hidden Joints

Slow leakage of fluid made obvious. Indicator consists of wick wrapped at one end around joint to be monitored. Wick absorbs hydraulic fluid leaking from joint and transmits to opposite end, located outside cover plate and visible to inspector. Leakage manifested as discoloration of outside end of wick. Indicator reveals leaks in hidden fittings on hydraulic lines. Fast inspection of joints without disassembly. Used in aerospace, petroleum, chemical, nuclear, and other industries where removing covers for inspection impossible, difficult, or time-consuming.

Fluid leak indicator

A fluid leak indicator for detecting and indicating leaks in visually inaccessible fluid tubing joints, such as those obstructed by insulation includes a bag system and a wicking system surrounding or wrapping the joints under the visual obstructing material. Leaking fluid is collected in the bag or on the wicking material where it is conducted along the wicking material to a visily accessible capturing transparent indicator bulb for providing a visual indication of the leak without requiring a chemical change in the capturing indicator bulb.

Flexible pile thermal barrier insulator

A flexible pile thermal barrier insulator included a plurality of upstanding pile yarns. A generally planar backing section supported the upstanding pile yarns. The backing section included a plurality of filler yarns forming a mesh in a first direction. A plurality of warp yarns were looped around said filler yarns and pile yarns in the backing section and formed a mesh in a second direction. A binder prevented separation of the yarns in the backing section.

Flexible-pile thermal sealant

Brushlike material insulates variable-width gaps where severe thermal stress is present. Weave-and-tuft strip has low thermal conductivity, working temperature range from -454 to 2,000 F, low load compressibility, and good inhibition of plasma flow.

Portable detector set discloses helium leak rates

Portable helium detector measuring helium leak rates makes possible the use of the inert gas helium as a tracer. This helps solve safety and contamination problems in detecting leaks in closed fluid systems.
