AX Farm and A Farm Third Retrieval Technology Chemical Dissolution Options Evaluation

In response to DOE-ORP direction to prepare a Practicability Evaluation for Waste Tank AX-102, and to address the Washington State Department of Ecology recommendation to evaluate the use of acid reagents for chemical dissolution, an Integrated Project Team (IPT) consisting of retrieval, process chemistry, corrosion, closure and laboratory subject matter experts was assembled to evaluate chemical dissolution options. This document provides a summary of these efforts and is intended to aid in the evaluation and third retrieval technology decision process not only for AX-102, but for all the AX and A Farm tanks, since the tanks contain similar waste and are flat-bottomed with uneven bottom plates.
