A Blockchain-Enabled Sustainable Safety Management Framework for Connected Vehicles

The notion of an intelligent transportation system (ITS) aims to boost the performance of transportation networks, which has gained more and more traction in both academic and commercial circles. ITS is a constantly evolving vision that combines cutting-edge transportation approaches with new information, communication, computers, and other technology. ITS should discover consequence routes to enhance the sustainability, safety, and trustworthiness of the entire transportation system utilizing emerging technologies. In this paper, a sustainable safety management framework for connected vehicles is proposed by integrating blockchain. It introduces smart transportation equipment called an AI-enabled vehicle smart device (AVSD) for vehicular communications. AVSD can reduce energy consumption by decreasing the computational costs in vehicular communications. Smart contracts are used to identify vehicles automatically and establish secure communication among vehicles and emergency service stations (ESSs) like hospitals, police stations, and fire stations. The experiment results show that the proposed framework provides a communication environment for sustainable safety and security using the introduced smart transportation device. In conclusion, the proposed blockchain-enabled sustainable safety management framework has the potential to improve safety and sustainability in the transportation industry by creating a secure, decentralized, and transparent platform for managing safety data and promoting safe and sustainable driving behaviors.

Fabrication and Characterization of Non-Equilibrium Plasma-Treated PVDF Nanofiber Membrane-Based Sensors

The effect of a self-pulsing non-equilibrium plasma discharge on piezoelectric PVDF nanofiber membrane was investigated. The plasma discharge was generated in air with a DC power source, with a discharge current of 0.012 mA, a nominal interelectrode separation of 1 mm, and discharge voltage of ~970 V. In a continuous fabrication process, the electrospinning method was used to generate thin nanofiber membrane with a flow rate of 0.7–1 mL h -1 and 25–27 kV voltage to obtain the nanofiber with high sensitivity and a higher degree of alignment and uniformity over a larger area. Plasma treatment was applied on both single layer and multi-layer (three layers) nanomembranes. In addition, simultaneously, the nanofiber membranes were heat-treated at a glass transition temperature (80–120 °C) and then underwent plasma treatment. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy showed that the area under the curve at 840 and 1272 cm -1 (β phase) increased due to the application of plasma and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) indicated an increase in the degree of crystallinity. Finally, PVDF sensors were fabricated from the nanofibers and their piezoelectric properties were characterized. The results suggested that compared to the pristine samples the piezoelectric properties in the plasma and plasma-heat-treated sensors were enhanced by 70% and 85% respectively.

Photoionization of Xe 5s: angular distribution and Wigner time delay in the vicinity of the second Cooper minimum

We report the angular distribution and photoionization Wigner time delay of Xe 5s photoelectrons are studied in the region of the second Cooper minimum (SCM) using (i) the relativistic multiconfiguration Tamm–Dancoff approximation, (ii) the relativistic-random-phase approximation (RRPA) and (iii) the RRPA-with-relaxation to demonstrate how differing treatments of correlation, and the relativistic interactions, affect the results. The results of the three methods are compared with each other and with available experimental data. The comparison reveals the importance of electron correlations for which a multiconfiguration description of the initial state is essential. The spin-resolved and spin-averaged photoionization time delay results show important signatures in the region of the SCM in the Xe 5s photoionization cross-section.

Effects of spin-orbit-interaction-activated interchannel coupling on photoemission time delay

Here, spin-orbit-interaction-activated interchannel coupling (SOIAIC) has been investigated theoretically in the time delay domain for 3d photoemission in the isoelectronic sequence I – , Xe, and Cs + using the relativistic-random-phase approximation with relaxation. The results show that SOIAIC becomes more important with increasing nuclear charge, and that time delay is affected more strongly than cross sections or photoelectron angular distribution β parameters.
