A Geodatabase Designed to Inform and Support Safe CO2 Transport-Route Planning

The National Energy Technology Laboratory developed the Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Pipeline Route Planning Database to inform safe and sustainable CO2 transport planning in support of decarbonization efforts. This comprehensive Esri Geodatabase contains over 90 GBs of data and 60+ spatial layers representing key considerations including natural hazards, infrastructure, energy, and social justice. Leveraging ArcGIS Pro, nationwide raster, and vector datasets containing millions of features were processed to be easily digestible for users and complex modeling software.

Deploying a Publicly Available and Living National Oil and Gas Well Geodatabase: CO2-Locate: A Dynamic Database & Tool

Emission mitigation and safe geologic carbon storage require an understanding of local wellbore infrastructure, yet well data are siloed across many entities. Addressing this challenge, the National Energy Technology Laboratory published CO2-Locate, an integrated and dynamic national wellbore geodatabase. CO2-Locate offers up to date well data spanning more than 40 federal, state, and tribal entities, as well as spatially summarized insights designed to support commercial, regulatory, and research communities as they strive to curb climate change through a national energy transition.

Energy Communities IWG Site Review Tool

The Energy Communities IWG's new Site Review Tool is a resource for manufacturers and investors interested in developing or expanding clean energy supply chain projects in energy communities and nationwide. The interactive map provides access to publicly available information on brownfields, facilities, nearby infrastructure, and community attributes, including federal incentives. The site review tool empowers community leaders and developers to promote investment into communities and encourages users to learn and explore the diverse range of investment options. This tool can be useful for applicants to identify relevant information about their project that is requested in DOE grant and tax credit submissions, including 48C energy community status and whether a project is located in a disadvantaged community. More information on this tool can be found at: https://energycommunities.gov/iwg-site-review-tool/ Disclaimer: This mapping tool may not be relied upon by taxpayers to substantiate a tax return position or for determining whether certain penalties apply and will not be used by the IRS for examination purposes. The mapping tool does not reflect the application of the law to a specific taxpayer's situation, and the applicable Internal Revenue Code provisions ultimately control.

Subsurface Energy Systems Mapping Inquiry Tool (MapIT)

The Subsurface Energy Systems Mapping Inquiry Tool (MapIT) is an online web mapping tool designed to help users discover available public-sourced data to facilitate data exploration for subsurface energy exploration and characterization efforts for resource identification (e.g. critical minerals, hydrocarbons, geothermal) as well as injection of geologic sequestration of carbon dioxide (e.g. enhanced oil recovery, saline storage, etc.). Modules within the tool curate data related to geology, faults, fractures, injection and confining zones, hydrologic information, groundwater, groundwater wells, geomechanical and petrophysical data, and geochemical data. User documentation on how to use the tool is also provided. Data have been collected from authoritative national, state, and local sources and made available in this tool. The data is also available as a data catalog and Esri Geodatabase at: https://edx.netl.doe.gov/dataset/mapit-database Disclaimer: There is no guarantee of completeness or appropriateness for individual user’s requirements. Advanced Infrastructure Integrity Modeling (AIIM) Onshore Pipeline Database

The Advanced Infrastructure Integrity Modeling (AIIM) Onshore Pipeline Database is an interoperable spatial resource containing critical environmental, operational, and reported stressors tied to publicly available oil and gas pipeline locations across the contiguous U.S. and Alaska. This database contains two layers: 1. Pipeline point locations (‘pipeline_points’) – More than 500,000 points (at every kilometer along pipelines, and end points) to which more than 350 stress-related variables have been appended. 2. Merged pipelines (‘merged_pipelines’) – The original, publicly available pipeline data (see table below) merged together into one feature class.
