Long- and short-range correlations and their event-scale dependence in high-multiplicity pp collisions at $ \sqrt{s} $ = 13 TeV

Two-particle angular correlations are measured in high-multiplicity proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV by the ALICE Collaboration. The yields of particle pairs at short-(Δη ~ 0) and long-range (1.6 < |Δη| < 1.8) in pseudorapidity are extracted on the near-side (Δ~ 0). They are reported as a function of transverse momentum (p T ) in the range 1 < p T < 4 GeV/c. Furthermore, the event-scale dependence is studied for the first time by requiring the presence of high-p T leading particles or jets for varying p T thresholds. The results demonstrate that the long-range “ridge” yield, possibly related to the collective behavior of the system, is present in events with high-p T processes as well. The magnitudes of the short- and long-range yields are found to grow with the event scale. The results are compared to EPOS LHC and PYTHIA 8 calculations, with and without string-shoving interactions. It is found that while both models describe the qualitative trends in the data, calculations from EPOS LHC show a better quantitative agreement for the p T dependency, while overestimating the event-scale dependency.

Measurement of beauty and charm production in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 5.02 TeV via non-prompt and prompt D mesons

The pT-differential production cross sections of prompt and non-prompt (produced in beauty-hadron decays) D mesons were measured by the ALICE experiment at midrapidity (|y| < 0.5) in proton-proton collisions at s√ = 5.02 TeV. The data sample used in the analysis corresponds to an integrated luminosity of (19.3 ± 0.4) nb -1 . D mesons were reconstructed from their decays D 0 → K - π + , D + → K - π + π + , and D$^+_s$→ φπ + → K - K + π + and their charge conjugates. Compared to previous measurements in the same rapidity region, the cross sections of prompt D + and D$^+_s$ mesons have an extended pT coverage and total uncertainties reduced by a factor ranging from 1.05 to 1.6, depending on pT, allowing for a more precise determination of their pT-integrated cross sections. The results are well described by perturbative QCD calculations. The fragmentation fraction of heavy quarks to strange mesons divided by the one to non-strange mesons, f s /(f u + f d ), is compatible for charm and beauty quarks and with previous measurements at different centre-of-mass energies and collision systems. The $b\bar{b}$ production cross section per rapidity unit at midrapidity, estimated from non-prompt D-meson measurements, is d$σ_{b\bar{b}}$/d$y$| |y|<0.5 = $34.5 ± 2.4(stat)^{+4.7}_{-2.9}$(tot.syst) μb. It is compatible with previous measurements at the same centre-of-mass energy and with the cross section pre- dicted by perturbative QCD calculations.

Measurements of mixed harmonic cumulants in Pb–Pb collisions at √ s NN = 5.02 TeV

Correlations between moments of different flow coefficients are measured in Pb–Pb collisions at √ s NN = 5.02 TeV recorded with the ALICE detector. These new measurements are based on multiparticle mixed harmonic cumulants calculated using charged particles in the pseudorapidity region |η| < 0.8 with the transverse momentum range 0.2 < p T < 5.0 GeV/c. The centrality dependence of correlations between two flow coefficients as well as the correlations between three flow coefficients, both in terms of their second moments, are shown. In addition, a collection of mixed harmonic cumulants involving higher moments of v 2 and v 3 is measured for the first time, where the characteristic signature of negative, positive and negative signs of four-, six- and eight-particle cumulants are observed, respectively. The measurements are compared to the hydrodynamic calculations using iEBE-VISHNU with AMPT and TRENTo initial conditions. It is shown that the measurements carried out using the LHC Run 2 data in 2015 have the precision to explore the details of initial-state fluctuations and probe the nonlinear hydrodynamic response of v 2 and v 3 to their corresponding initial anisotropy coefficients and ε 2 and ε 3 . These new studies on correlations between three flow coefficients as well as correlations between higher moments of two different flow coefficients will pave the way to tighten constraints on initial-state models and help to extract precise information on the dynamic evolution of the hot and dense matter created in heavy-ion collisions at the LHC.

Temperature Dependent E2 Raman Modes in the ZnCoO Ternary Alloy

The anharmonic properties of low and high frequency E2 modes of ZnO and Co doped ZnO were investigated using Raman scattering spectroscopy. We have determined the behavior of frequency, linewidths, and lifetime of E2 modes in the temperature range from 80 to 800 K. In the case of E2(high) mode the frequency shift towards the lower energy side was analyzed in light of the theory of anharmonic phonon-phonon interaction and thermal expansion of the lattice, and the linewidth behavior was analyzed in terms of anharmonic effect of three-phonon decay mechanism. But in the case of E2(low), the linewidth and frequency behaved practically harmonic with respect to temperature and independent of Co substitutions. It is found that the E2(high) phonon anharmonicity is higher for ZnCoO alloys than in pure ZnO and it increases with the compositional disorder. The low temperature lifetime of E2 phonon in ZnO, 1 % and 3% Co doped ZnO were found to be 1.S2, 1.74, and 1.54 ps, respectively.

Raman Scattering Studies in Dilute Magnetic Semiconductor Zn(1-x)Co(x)O

Raman spectra of ZnO and Co substituted Zn1-xCoxO (ZCO) were carried out using the Raman microprobe system with an p.,+ ion laser source of 514.5 nm wavelength. The shift towards the lower frequency side of the nonpolar E210w mode and the broadening due to Co substitution in ZnO were analyzed using the phonon confinement model. The magnetic measurements showed ferromagnetic behavior with the maximum saturation magnetization (1.2micron Beta/ErCo) for 10% Co substitution, which decreased wi th at further increase in Co concentrations. The intensities of E1(LO) at 584 cm-1 and multiphonon modes at 540 cm-1 were increased with an increase in Co substitution. The additional Raman modes in ceramic targets of ZCO spectra for higher concentration of Co substitution (x=15%-20%) were identified to be due to the spinel ZnCo2O4 secondary phase.

Monolithically Integrated SiGe/Si PIN-HBT Front-End Transimpedance Photoreceivers

The demand for monolithically integrated photoreceivers based on Si-based technology keeps increasing as low cost and high reliability products are required for the expanding commercial market. Higher speed and wider operating frequency range are expected when SiGe/Si heterojunction is introduced to the circuit design. In this paper, a monolithic SiGe/Si PIN-HBT front-end transimpedance photoreceiver is demonstrated for the first time. For this purpose, mesa-type SiGe/Si PIN-HBT technology was developed. Fabricated HBTs exhibit f(sub max) of 34 GHz with DC gain of 25. SiGe/Si PIN photodiodes, which share base and collector layers of HBTs, demonstrate responsivity of 0.3 A/W at lambda=850 nm and bandwidth of 450 MHz. Based on these devices, single- and dual-feedback transimpedance amplifiers were fabricated and they exhibited the bandwidth of 3.2 GHz and 3.3 GHz with the transimpedance gain of 45.2 dB(Omega) and 47.4 dB(Omega) respectively. Monolithically integrated single-feedback PIN-HBT photoreceivers were implemented and the bandwidth was measured to be approx. 0.5 GHz, which is limited by the bandwidth of PIN photodiodes.
