Terrestrial analogs for space exploration habitation systems

The Space Exploration Initiative (SEI) can use early earth-based analogs to simulate many aspects of space flight missions and system operation. These analogs can thus provide information supporting future missions to the moon and to Mars. A study was performed to investigate the potential of terrestrial analogs in simulating human space exploration missions. The study resulted in preliminary requirements and concepts for analog habitation systems, and further study in this area is necessary for SEI terrestrial analog development.

Human factors - Man-machine symbiosis in space

The relation between man and machine in space is studied. Early spaceflight and the goal of establishing a permanent space presence are described. The need to consider the physiological, psychological, and social integration of humans for each space mission is examined. Human factors must also be considered in the design of spacecraft. The effective utilization of man and machine capabilities, and research in anthropometry and biomechanics aimed at determining the limitations of spacecrews are discussed.

Program Generates Views of Complicated Objects

PLAID is three-dimensional Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) program enabling user to construct, manipulate, and display interactively highly complex geometric models. Line drawings and other representations produced by computer-aided design. Used in engineering applications. Incorporation of techniques and features minimizes user's workload in designing and managing PLAID models. Written in FORTRAN 77.
