Versatile logic system for use in nuclear experiments on scientific satellites.

An improved fast low-power-drain logic system has been developed for use in nuclear experiments on scientific satellites. The basic unit of the system is an AND-NAND gate which has a response in the 10-nsec range, a power drain of 2.0 mw and operates over the temperature range of -40 to +80 C. In addition to providing the AND-NAND logic functions, one or more of the basic units may be connected to yield a monostable pulse generator, a pulse generator proceeding an output pulse at the leading edge of the input pulse, a delay, a threshold detector, and a bistable circuit. The system requires relatively simple circuitry for interfacing at its outputs and inputs.

A 100,000 pulse height analyzer for use in High Energy Cosmic Ray Experiments (HECRE) on high altitude balloon flights

A description is given of a wide dynamic range pulse height analyzer system developed for use on High Energy Cosmic Ray Experiment (HECRE) Balloon Flights. A wide dynamic range of 100,000 is obtained by extending the range of a basic 1024 channel analyzer through the use of multiple ranges and range selection. The system described here contains four 100,000 pulse height analyzers. Each 100,000 pulse height analyzer consists of a group of cordwood welded modules mounted and interconnected on a printed circuit card. Four of these card assemblies, the required clock drive circuitry (discrete components mounted and interconnected on a separate card) and three input-output connectors are interconnected and mounted on the system board.

Wide-range pulse-height discriminator

Improved pulse amplitude discriminator has discriminator level in millivolt range, permits simple adjustment over wide range, and is stable within one percent at temperatures between minus 20 degrees and plus 60 degrees C. The discriminator responds to narrow pulses /500 nsec/, draws little power /milliwatts/, and requires simple circuitry.

Switching circuits with fast response and low power drain

New logic circuits have response times no longer than 10 nanoseconds and drain only milliwatts of power. The family includes AND and NAND gates and forms the basis of all logic functions. The basic circuits are used in various types of digital-data-processing systems.

Digitally controlled pulse-level discriminator operates over wide voltage range

Low power drain discriminator circuit generates an output pulse when an input pulse exceeds a discrete digitally controlled threshold voltage. The discriminator operates over a wide linear or nonlinear range of threshold levels. It uses several amplifier stages ahead of a fixed-reference threshold detector.

Hybrid circuit achieves pulse regeneration with low power drain

Hybrid tunnel diode-transistor circuit provides a solid-state, low power drain pulse regenerator, frequency limiter, or gated oscillator. When the feedback voltage exceeds the input voltage, the circuit functions as a pulse normalizer or a frequency limiter. If the circuit is direct coupled, it functions as a gated oscillator.
