Techniques and tools for efficiently modeling multiprocessor systems

System-level tools and methodologies associated with an integrated approach to the development of multiprocessor systems are examined. Tools for capturing initial program structure, automated program partitioning, automated resource allocation, and high-level modeling of the combined application and resource are discussed. The primary language focus of the current implementation is Ada, although the techniques should be appropriate for other programming paradigms.

Modeling and analysis of multiprocessor architectures

Some technologies developed for system level modeling and analysis of algorithms/architectures using an architecture design and development system are reviewed. Modeling and analysis is described with attention given to modeling constraints and analysis using constrained software graphs. An example is presented of an ADAS graph and its associated attributes, such as firing delay, token consume rate, token produce rate, firing threshold, firing condition, arc queue lengths, associated C or Ada functional model, and stochastic behavior.

The architecture of a video image processor for the space station

The architecture of a video image processor for space station applications is described. The architecture was derived from a study of the requirements of algorithms that are necessary to produce the desired functionality of many of these applications. Architectural options were selected based on a simulation of the execution of these algorithms on various architectural organizations. A great deal of emphasis was placed on the ability of the system to evolve and grow over the lifetime of the space station. The result is a hierarchical parallel architecture that is characterized by high level language programmability, modularity, extensibility and can meet the required performance goals.

Some dynamical properties of very strong double layers in a triple plasma device

Dynamical properties of very strong double layers seen in a differentially pumped triple plasma device are reported. These double layers are V-shaped. The following findings are discussed: (1) Disruptions in the double layer potential and in the plasma current occur when an inductance is placed in series with the bias supply between the sources in the external circuit. These disruptions, which can be highly periodic, are the result of a negative resistance region. (2) When reactances in the circuit are minimized, the double layer exhibits a jitter motion in position approximately equal to the double layer thickness. (3) When the bias between the sources is rapidly turned on, the initial phase in the double layer formation is the occurrence of a constant electric field for the first few microseconds. First the apparatus used in all of the work is discussed and then each of the three phenomena are considered.

In-flight thrust determination on a real-time basis

A real time computer program was implemented on a F-15 jet fighter to monitor in-flight engine performance of a Digital Electronic Engine Controlled (DEES) F-100 engine. The application of two gas generator methods to calculate in-flight thrust real time is described. A comparison was made between the actual results and those predicted by an engine model simulation. The percent difference between the two methods was compared to the predicted uncertainty based on instrumentation and model uncertainty and agreed closely with the results found during altitude facility testing. Data was obtained from acceleration runs of various altitudes at maximum power settings with and without afterburner. Real time in-flight thrust measurement was a major advancement to flight test productivity and was accomplished with no loss in accuracy over previous post flight methods.
