ROSAT X-ray Study of the Stellar Population of the Chamaeleon I Dark Cloud
Two soft X-ray images of the Chamaeleon I cloud obtained with the ROSAT PSPC are presented. Seventy reliable, and perhaps 19 additional X-ray sources are found. Up to 90% of these sources are certainly or probably identified with T Tauri stars formed in the cloud. Twenty to 35 are probably new 'weak' T Tauri (WTT) stars. We summarize a statistical study of the relationships between X-ray emission and other physical properties for a number of Chamaeleon stars. We see no difference in spatial distributions, detection rate and luminosity functions between the WTTS and CTTS.
