Recent developments in Stirling and pulse tube coolers for spacecraft applications

Recent progress toward the development of light weight, long life coolers is presented. In particular, programs underway in the United States to develop Stirling cycle coolers and pulse tube coolers are described. The potential availability of reliable, long lifetime coolers for space applications is discussed.
