Influence of the complete basis set approximation, tight weighted-core, and diffuse functions on the DLPNO-CCSD(T1) atomization energies of neutral H,C,O-compounds

The impact of complete basis set extrapolation schemes (CBS), diffuse functions, and tight weighted core functions on enthalpies of formation predicted via the DLPNO-CCSD(T1) reduced Feller Peterson-Dixon approach has been examined for neutral H,C,O-compounds. All tested three-point (TZ/QZ/5Z) extrapolation schemes result in mean unsigned deviation (MUD) below 2 kJ mol -1 relative to the experiment. Here, the two-point QZ/5Z and TZ/QZ CBS 1/$l^3_{max}$ extrapolation schemes are inferior to their inverse power counterpart (1/($l_{max}$ + 1/2) 4 ) by 1.3 and 4.3 kJ mol -1 . The CBS extrapolated frozen core atomization energies are insensitive (within 1 kJ mol -1 ) to augmentation of the basis set with tight weighted core functions. The core-valence correlation effects converge already at triple-ζ, although double- ζ/triple- ζ CBS extrapolation performs better and is recommended. The effect of diffuse function augmentation converges slowly, and cannot be reproduced with double- ζ or triple- ζ calculations as these are plagued with basis set superposition and incompleteness errors.

Prediction of protein assemblies, the next frontier: The CASP14-CAPRI experiment

Here we present the results for CAPRI Round 50, the fourth joint CASP-CAPRI protein assembly prediction challenge. The Round comprised a total of twelve targets, including six dimers, three trimers, and three higher-order oligomers. Four of these were easy targets, for which good structural templates were available either for the full assembly, or for the main interfaces (of the higher-order oligomers). Eight were difficult targets for which only distantly related templates were found for the individual subunits. Twenty-five CAPRI groups including eight automatic servers submitted ~1250 models per target. Twenty groups including six servers participated in the CAPRI scoring challenge submitted ~190 models per target. The accuracy of the predicted models was evaluated using the classical CAPRI criteria. The prediction performance was measured by a weighted scoring scheme that takes into account the number of models of acceptable quality or higher submitted by each group as part of their five top-ranking models. Compared to the previous CASP-CAPRI challenge, top performing groups submitted such models for a larger fraction (70–75%) of the targets in this Round, but fewer of these models were of high accuracy. Scorer groups achieved stronger performance with more groups submitting correct models for 70–80% of the targets or achieving high accuracy predictions. Servers performed less well in general, except for the MDOCKPP and LZERD servers, who performed on par with human groups. In addition to these results, major advances in methodology are discussed, providing an informative overview of where the prediction of protein assemblies currently stands.

Operando Elucidation on the Working State of Immobilized Fluorinated Iron Porphyrin for Selective Aqueous Electroreduction of CO 2 to CO

Iron porphyrin-based molecular catalysts can electrocatalyze CO 2 reduction to CO at nearly 100% selectivity in water. Nevertheless, the associated active sites and reaction mechanisms remain debatable, impeding the establishment of design guidelines for effective catalysts. This study reports coupling in operando experiments and theoretical calculations for immobilized 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl) porphyrin Fe(III) chloride (FeF 20 TPP) for electrocatalytic CO 2 reduction in an aqueous phase. In operando UV–vis and X-ray absorption near-edge structure spectra indicated the persisting presence of Fe(II) species during the cathodic reaction, acting as catalytic sites that accommodate CO as Fe(II)–CO adducts. Consistently, the density functional calculations pointed out that the ligand-reduced state with oxidized Fe, namely, [Fe(II)F 20 (TPP • )] - , prevails in the catalytic cycle prior to the rate-controlling step. This work provides the conclusive representation related to the working states of Fe-based molecular catalysts under reaction conditions.

Optically Pure C 1 -Symmetric Cyclic(alkyl)(amino)carbene Ruthenium Complexes for Asymmetric Olefin Metathesis

An expedient access to the first optically pure ruthenium complexes containing C 1 -symmetric cyclic (alkyl)(amino)carbene (CAAC) ligands is reported. Furthermore, they demonstrate excellent catalytic performances in asymmetric olefin metathesis with high enantioselectivities (up to 92% ee). Preliminary mechanistic insights provided by DFT models highlight the origin of the enantioselectivity.
