Observation of η c ( 1 S , 2 S ) and χ c J decays to 2 ( π + π − ) η via ψ ( 3686 ) radiative transitions

Based on ( 2712.4 ± 14.1 ) × 10 6 ψ ( 3686 ) decays collected with the BESIII detector, we have observed, for the first time, the hadronic decays of S- and P-wave charmonium states into 2 ( π + π − ) η via radiative transitions from ψ ( 3686 ) . The branching fraction of the decay η c ( 1 S ) → 2 ( π + π − ) η has a significant dependence on the interference pattern between η c ( 1 S ) and non- η c ( 1 S ) processes. We measure it in both the destructive and constructive interference scenarios for the first time. The mass and width of the η c ( 1 S ) are measured to be M = ( 2984.14 ± 0.13 ± 0.38 ) MeV / c 2 and Γ = ( 28.82 ± 0.11 ± 0.82 ) MeV , respectively. Clear signals for the decays of the χ c J ( J = 0 , 1 , 2 ) and the η c ( 2 S ) to 2 ( π + π − ) η are also observed for the first time, and the corresponding branching fractions are measured. The ratio of the branching fractions between the η c ( 2 S ) and η c ( 1 S ) decays is significantly lower than the theoretical prediction, which might suggest different dynamics in their decays. Measurement of the inclusive cross sections of prompt J / ψ and ψ ( 3686 ) production in e + e − annihilation from s = 3.808 to 4.951 GeV

The inclusive cross sections of prompt J / ψ and ψ ( 3686 ) production are measured at center-of-mass energies from 3.808 to 4.951 GeV. The dataset used is 22 fb − 1 of e + e − annihilation data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. The results obtained are in agreement with the previous BESIII measurements of exclusive J / ψ and ψ ( 3686 ) production. The average values obtained for the cross sections measured in the center-of-mass energy ranges from 4.527 to 4.951 GeV for J / ψ and from 4.843 to 4.951 GeV for ψ ( 3686 ) , where the impact of known resonances is negligible, are 14.0 ± 1.7 ± 3.1 pb and 15.3 ± 3.0 pb , respectively. For J / ψ , the first and the second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. For ψ ( 3686 ) , the uncertainty is total. These values are useful for testing charmonium production models. Published by the American Physical Society 2025

R ( 3780 ) Resonance Interpreted as the 1 D 1 3 -Wave Dominant State of Charmonium from Precise Measurements of the Cross Section of e + e − → Hadrons

We report the precise measurements of the cross section of e + e − → hadrons at center-of-mass energies from 3.645 to 3.871 GeV. We thereby perform the most precise study of the cross sections and find a complex system composed of three resonances of R ( 3760 ) , R ( 3780 ) , and R ( 3810 ) . For the first time, we measure the R ( 3810 ) electronic width to be ( 19.4 ± 7.4 ± 12.1 ) eV . For the R ( 3760 ) resonance, we measure the mass to be ( 3751.9 ± 3.8 ± 2.8 ) MeV / c 2 , the total width to be ( 32.8 ± 5.8 ± 8.7 ) MeV , and the electronic width to be ( 184 ± 75 ± 86 ) eV . For the R ( 3780 ) resonance, we measure its mass to be ( 3778.7 ± 0.5 ± 0.3 ) MeV / c 2 , total width to be ( 20.3 ± 0.8 ± 1.7 ) MeV , and electronic width to be ( 265 ± 67 ± 83 ) eV . Forty-seven years ago, the ψ ( 3770 ) resonance was discovered, and was subsequently interpreted as the 1 D 1 3 -wave dominant state of charmonium. However, our analysis of the total-hadron cross sections indicates that the ψ ( 3770 ) is not a single state, but a complex system composed of the R ( 3760 ) , R ( 3780 ) , and R ( 3810 ) resonances. Among these, we interpret the R ( 3780 ) is a resonance dominated by the 1 D 1 3 charmonium state. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Search for J / ψ weak decays containing a D meson

Using a sample of about 10 billion J / ψ events with the BESIII detector, we search for the weak decays of J / ψ → D ¯ 0 π 0 + c . c . , J / ψ → D ¯ 0 η + c . c . , J / ψ → D ¯ 0 ρ 0 + c . c . , J / ψ → D − π + + c . c . , and J / ψ → D − ρ + + c . c . . Since no significant signal is observed, we set the upper limits of the branching fractions of these decays to be B ( J / ψ → D ¯ 0 π 0 + c . c . ) < 4.7 × 10 − 7 , B ( J / ψ → D ¯ 0 η + c . c . ) < 6.8 × 10 − 7 , B ( J / ψ → D ¯ 0 ρ 0 + c . c . ) < 5.2 × 10 − 7 , B ( J / ψ → D − π + + c . c . ) < 7.0 × 10 − 8 , and B ( J / ψ → D − ρ + + c . c . ) < 6.0 × 10 − 7 at the 90% confidence level. Precise Measurement of Born Cross Sections for e + e − → D D ¯ at s = 3.80 − 4.95 GeV

Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies ranging from 3.80 to 4.95 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20 fb − 1 , a measurement of Born cross sections for the e + e − → D 0 D ¯ 0 and D + D − processes is presented with unprecedented precision. Many clear peaks in the line shape of e + e − → D 0 D ¯ 0 and D + D − around the mass range of G ( 3900 ) , ψ ( 4040 ) , ψ ( 4160 ) , Y ( 4260 ) , and ψ ( 4415 ) , etc., are foreseen. These results offer crucial experimental insights into the nature of hadron production in the open-charm region. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Study of e + e − → π + π − π 0 at s from 2.00 to 3.08 GeV at BESIII

With the data samples taken at center-of-mass energies from 2.00 to 3.08 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, a partial wave analysis on the e + e − → π + π − π 0 process is performed. The Born cross sections for e + e − → π + π − π 0 and its intermediate processes e + e − → ρ π and ρ ( 1450 ) π are measured as functions of s . The results for e + e − → π + π − π 0 are consistent with previous results measured with the initial state radiation method within one standard deviation, and improve the uncertainty by a factor of ten. By fitting the line shapes of the Born cross sections for the e + e − → ρ π and e + e − → ρ ( 1450 ) π , a structure with mass M = 2119 ± 11 ± 15 MeV / c 2 and width Γ = 69 ± 30 ± 5 MeV is observed with a significance of 5.9 σ , where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. This structure can be interpreted as an excited ω state. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Evidence of the singly Cabibbo suppressed decay Λ c + → p π 0

Evidence for the singly Cabibbo suppressed decay Λ c + → p π 0 is reported for the first time with a statistical significance of 3.7 σ based on 6.0 fb − 1 of e + e − collision data collected at center-of-mass energies between 4.600 and 4.843 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The absolute branching fraction of Λ c + → p π 0 is measured to be ( 1.5 6 − 0.58 + 0.72 ± 0.20 ) × 10 − 4 . Combining with the branching fraction of Λ c + → n π + , ( 6.6 ± 1.3 ) × 10 − 4 , the ratio of the branching fractions of Λ c + → n π + and Λ c + → p π 0 is calculated to be 3.2 − 1.2 + 2.2 . As an important input for the theoretical models describing the decay mechanisms of charmed baryons, our result indicates that the nonfactorizable contributions play an essential role and their interference with the factorizable contributions should not be significant. In addition, the absolute branching fraction of Λ c + → p η is measured to be ( 1.63 ± 0.3 1 stat ± 0.1 1 syst ) × 10 − 3 . Published by the American Physical Society 2024

First Observation of a Three-Resonance Structure in e + e − → Nonopen Charm Hadrons

We report the measurement of the inclusive cross sections for e + e − → nOCH (where nOCH denotes non-open charm hadrons) with improved precision at center-of-mass (c.m.) energies from 3.645 to 3.871 GeV. We observe three resonances: R ( 3760 ) , R ( 3780 ) , and R ( 3810 ) with significances of 8.1 σ , 13.7 σ , and 8.8 σ , respectively. The R ( 3810 ) state is observed for the first time, while the R ( 3760 ) and R ( 3780 ) states are observed for the first time in the nOCH cross sections. Two sets of resonance parameters describe the energy-dependent line shape of the cross sections well. In set I [set II], the R ( 3810 ) state has mass ( 3805.7 ± 1.1 ± 2.7 ) [ ( 3805.7 ± 1.1 ± 2.7 ) ] MeV / c 2 , total width ( 11.6 ± 2.9 ± 1.9 ) [ ( 11.5 ± 2.8 ± 1.9 ) ] MeV , and an electronic width multiplied by the nOCH decay branching fraction of ( 10.9 ± 3.8 ± 2.5 ) [ ( 11.0 ± 3.4 ± 2.5 ) ] eV . In addition, we measure the branching fractions B [ R ( 3760 ) → nOCH ] = ( 25.2 ± 16.1 ± 30.4 ) % [ ( 6.4 ± 4.8 ± 7.7 ) % ] and B [ R ( 3780 ) → nOCH ] = ( 12.3 ± 6.6 ± 8.3 ) % [ ( 10.4 ± 4.8 ± 7.0 ) % ] for the first time. The R ( 3760 ) state can be interpreted as an open-charm (OC) molecular state, but containing a simple four-quark state component. The R ( 3810 ) state can be interpreted as a hadrocharmonium state. Observation of Structures in the Processes e + e − → ω χ c 1 and ω χ c 2

We present measurements of the Born cross sections for the processes e + e − → ω χ c 1 and ω χ c 2 at center-of-mass energies s from 4.308 to 4.951 GeV. The measurements are performed with data samples corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 11.0 fb − 1 collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider storage ring. Assuming the e + e − → ω χ c 2 signals come from a single resonance, the mass and width are determined to be M = ( 4413.6 ± 9.0 ± 0.8 ) MeV / c 2 and Γ = ( 110.5 ± 15.0 ± 2.9 ) MeV , respectively, which is consistent with the parameters of the well-established resonance ψ ( 4415 ) . In addition, we also use one single resonance to describe the e + e − → ω χ c 1 line shape and determine the mass and width to be M = ( 4544.2 ± 18.7 ± 1.7 ) MeV / c 2 and Γ = ( 116.1 ± 33.5 ± 1.7 ) MeV , respectively.
