Inferring effective electrostatic interaction of charge-stabilized colloids from scattering using deep learning

In this article, an innovative strategy is presented that incorporates deep auto-encoder networks into a least-squares fitting framework to address the potential inversion problem in small-angle scattering. To evaluate the performance of the proposed approach, a detailed case study focusing on charged colloidal suspensions was carried out. The results clearly indicate that a deep learning solution offers a reliable and quantitative method for studying molecular interactions. The approach surpasses existing deterministic approaches with respect to both numerical accuracy and computational efficiency. Overall, this work demonstrates the potential of deep learning techniques in tackling complex problems in soft-matter structures and beyond.

Synthesis of Perdeuterated Alkyl Amines/Amides with Pt/C as Catalyst under Mild Conditions

A convenient method for the synthesis of perdeuterated alkyl amides/amines is disclosed. Perdeuterated acetyl amides can be achieved by a hydrogen–deuterium (H/D) exchange protocol with Pt/C as a catalyst and D 2 O as a deuterium source under mild conditions. Further, after removal or reduction of the acetyl group, this protocol can provide perdeuterated primary, secondary, and tertiary amines, which are difficult to achieve via other methods.

Cu(II)-Catalyzed H/D exchange of indole derivatives

Cu(OTf) 2 was explored as an efficient catalyst for hydrogen deuterium (H/D) exchange of indole derivatives. The advantage of this reaction is that deuteration selectivity can be adjusted by changing reaction parameters. When the reaction was performed with 10 mol% of Cu(OTf) 2 as a catalyst in dioxane at 80 °C, deuteration preferentially occurred at C3 position of indole with high atom% deuterium incorporation. Furthermore, per-deuterated indole derivatives could be achieved by performing the reaction with higher catalyst loading in toluene at 120 °C. In conclusion, performing the reaction on a continuous flow reactor facilitates the scale-up process, affording deuterated products with a throughput of 3.9 g/h.

Desmearing small-angle scattering data by central moment expansions

This article proposes a robust method for desmearing 1D small-angle scattering (SAS) intensity profiles. Using the central-moment-expansion technique, smearing in SAS intensity profiles is achieved in a model-free manner, eliminating the need for presumptive input during the desmearing. This innovative approach enables data analysis of SAS data without the resolution being convoluted with the structural model, thereby facilitating faster implementation and performance of fitting functions directly from the scattering models.
