Test of light-lepton universality in τ decays with the Belle II experiment

We present a measurement of the ratio R µ = $\mathcal{B}$($τ^- → µ^-\overline{ν}_µν_τ$)/$\mathcal{B}(τ^- → e^-\overline{ν}_eν_τ$) of branching fractions B of the τ lepton decaying to muons or electrons using data collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB e + e - collider. The sample has an integrated luminosity of 362 ± 2 fb -1 at a centre-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. Using an optimised event selection, a binned maximum likelihood ft is performed using the momentum spectra of the electron and muon candidates. The result, R µ = 0.9675 ± 0.0007 ± 0.0036, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic, is the most precise to date. It provides a stringent test of the light-lepton universality, translating to a ratio of the couplings of the muon and electron to the W boson in τ decays of 0.9974 ± 0.0019, in agreement with the standard model expectation of unity.

Measurement of branching-fraction ratios and CP asymmetries in B± → DCP±K± decays at Belle and Belle II

Abstract We report results from a study ofB ± → DK ± decays followed byDdecaying to theCP-even final stateK + K − and CP-odd final state$$ {K}_S^0{\pi}^0 $$ K S 0 π 0 , whereDis an admixture ofD 0 and$$ {\overline{D}}^0 $$ D ¯ 0 states. These decays are sensitive to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity-triangle angleϕ 3 . The results are based on a combined analysis of the final data set of 772×10 6 $$ B\overline{B} $$ B B ¯ pairs collected by the Belle experiment and a data set of 198×10 6 $$ B\overline{B} $$ B B ¯ pairs collected by the Belle II experiment, both in electron-positron collisions at the Υ(4S) resonance. We measure the CP asymmetries to be$$ \mathcal{A} $$ A CP+ = (+12.5±5.8±1.4)% and$$ \mathcal{A} $$ A CP− = (−16.7±5.7±0.6)%, and the ratios of branching fractions to be$$ \mathcal{R} $$ R CP+ = 1.164±0.081±0.036 and$$ \mathcal{R} $$ R CP− = 1.151±0.074±0.019. The first contribution to the uncertainties is statistical, and the second is systematic. The asymmetries$$ \mathcal{A} $$ A CP+ and$$ \mathcal{A} $$ A CP− have similar magnitudes and opposite signs; their difference corresponds to 3.5 standard deviations. From these values we calculate 68.3% confidence intervals of (8.5 ° <ϕ 3 < 16.5 ° ) or (84.5 ° <ϕ 3 < 95.5 ° ) or (163.3 ° <ϕ 3 < 171.5 ° ) and 0.321 B< 0.465.

Search for charged-lepton flavor violation in Υ(2S) → ℓ∓τ± (ℓ = e, μ) decays at Belle

Abstract We report a search for the charged-lepton flavor violation in Υ(2S) →ℓ ∓ τ ± (ℓ=e, μ) decays using a 25 fb −1 Υ(2S) sample collected by the Belle detector at the KEKBe + e − asymmetric-energy collider. We find no evidence for a signal and set upper limits on the branching fractions ($$ \mathcal{B} $$ B ) at 90% confidence level. We obtain the most stringent upper limits:$$ \mathcal{B} $$ B (Υ(2S)→ μ ∓ τ ± )<0.23×10 −6 and$$ \mathcal{B} $$ B (Υ(2S)→ e ∓ τ ± )<1.12×10 −6 .

London penetration depth of electron-irradiated Ba 0 . 47 K 0 . 53 Fe 2 As 2

We have characterized an electron-irradiated Ba 1-x K x Fe 2 As 2 (x = 0.53) single-crystal using two different experimental techniques: magneto-optic measurements and microwave measurements. The crystal has been measured before as well as after the 2.5 MeV electron irradiation process. After irradiation it was annealed in a number of steps, between 90 °C and 180 °C, and measured after each annealing step. Most microwave measurements were performed by means of a copper cavity, taking advantage of the TE 011 and TM 110 modes, allowing for the determination of the London penetration depths changes δλ ab (T) and δλ c (T), ie perpendicular and parallel to the sample c-axis. Appropriate equations, based on perturbation theory, were derived to calculate the penetration depths changes δλ ab and δλ c for a rectangular prism geometry. The sample showed a full recovery of its T c , however the observed behavior of δλ c and δλ ab was not monotonic vs annealing temperature, displaying a minimum of δλ c and δλ ab at 120 °C. In conclusion, this finding was confirmed by magneto-optic measurements, where besides verifying the sample uniformity and the absence of visible defects, the lower critical field H c1 of the Ba 1-x K x Fe 2 As 2 single-crystal was obtained and the London penetration depth λab(0) was calculated.

Search for $ {\textrm{B}}_{\textrm{s}}^0 $ → ℓ ∓ τ ± with the semi-leptonic tagging method at Belle

We present a search for the lepton-flavor-violating decays ${B}_s^0$ → ℓ ∓ τ ± , where ℓ = e, μ, using the full data sample of 121 fb -1 collected at the Υ(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e - collider. We use ${B}_s^0{\overline{B}}_s^0$ events in which one ${B}_s^0$ meson is reconstructed in a semileptonic decay mode and the other in the signal mode. We find no evidence for (${B}_s^0$ → ℓ ∓ τ ± decays and set upper limits on their branching fractions at 90% confidence level as $\mathcal{B}$(${B}_s^0$ → e ∓ τ ± ) < 14 × 10 -4 and $\mathcal{B}$ (${B}_s^0$ → μ ∓ τ ± ) < 7.3 × 10 -4 . Our result represents the first upper limit on the ${B}_s^0$ → e ∓ τ ± decay rate.

Search for lepton-flavor-violating τ decays into a lepton and a vector meson using the full Belle data sample

Charged-lepton-flavor-violation is predicted in several new physics scenarios. We update the analysis of τ lepton decays into a light charged lepton (ℓ = e ± or μ ± ) and a vector meson (V 0 = ρ 0 , Φ, ω, K *0 , or $\overline{K}$ *0 ) using 980 fb -1 of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB collider. No significant excess of such signal events is observed, and thus 90% credibility level upper limits are set on the τ → ℓV 0 branching fractions in the range of (1.7–4.3) × 10 -8 . These limits are improved by 30% on average from the previous results.

Two-particle angular correlations in e + e - collisions to hadronic final states in two reference coordinates at Belle

We present the analysis of two-particle angular correlations using coordinate systems defined with the conventional beam axis and the event thrust axis. We propose the latter as a good representation for the correlation structure interpretation in the e + e - collision system. The e + e - collisions to hadronic final states at center-of-mass energies of $\sqrt{s}$ = 10.52 GeV and 10.58 GeV are recorded by the Belle detector at KEKB. In this paper, results on the first dataset are supplementary to the previous Belle publication [1]. At the same time, the latter is the first two-particle correlation measurement at collision energy on the Υ(4S) resonance and is sensitive to its decay products. Measurements are reported as a function of the charged-particle multiplicity. Finally, a qualitative understanding of the correlation structure is discussed using a combination of Monte Carlo simulations and experimental data.

Measurement of two-photon decay width of χ c2 (1 P ) in γγ → χ c2 (1 P ) → J/ψγ at Belle

We report the measurement of the two-photon decay width of χ c2 (1P) in two-photon processes at the Belle experiment. We analyze the process γγ → χ c2 (1P) → J/ψγ, J/ψ → ℓ + ℓ - (ℓ = e or μ) using a data sample of 971 fb -1 collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e + e - collider. In this analysis, the product of the two-photon decay width of χ c2 (1P) and the branching fraction is determined to be ${\Gamma}_{\gamma \gamma}({\chi}_{c2}(1P))\mathcal{B}({\chi}_{c2}(1P)\to J/\psi \gamma) \mathcal{B} (J/\psi \to {\ell}^{+}{\ell}^{-})=$ 14.8 ± 0.3(stat.) ± 0.7(syst.) eV, which corresponds to Γ γγ (χ c2 (1P)) = 653 ± 13(stat.) ± 31(syst.) ± 17(B.R.) eV, where the third uncertainty is from $\mathcal{B}$ (χ c2 (1P) → J/ψγ) and $\mathcal{B}$ (J/ψ → ℓ + ℓ - ).

Evidence for the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay Ω 0 c → Ξ¯π + and search for Ω 0 c → Ξ¯ K + and Ω¯K + decays at Belle

Using a data sample of 980 fb -1 collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e - collider, we study for the first time the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays Ω 0 c → Ξ¯π + and Ω¯K + and the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay Ω 0 c → Ξ¯ K + . Evidence for an Ω 0 c signal in the Ω 0 c → Ξ¯π + mode is reported with a significance of 4.5σ including systematic uncertainties.
