Here, in this work, an alcohol-soluble, low-temperature processable and relatively thickness insensitive electron-transporting layer (ETL) comprising a planar coronene derivative, CDIN, was exploited to effectively enhance the photovoltaic performance of various inverted organic photovoltaics (OPVs). Besides the decent charge-transporting property, such CDIN ETL was manifested to facilitate the face-on orientation of atop bulk-heterojunction (BHJ) layers as evidenced by GIWAXS analysis, which might benefit from its discotic geometry endowed with strong face-on π–π stacking in solid-states and better compatibility to the constituent organic photoactive components. Consequently, an enhancement of over 9% in PCE can be achieved in the state-of-the-art fullerene-based OPVs to yield a PCE of 11.2% while over 13% enhancement can be realized in the representative non-fullerene OPVs to yield a PCE of 9%.
Photodetectors with ultrafast response are explored using inorganic/organic hybrid perovskites. High responsivity and fast optoelectronic response are achieved due to the exceptional semiconducting properties of perovskite materials. However, most of the perovskite-based photodetectors exploited to date are centered on Pb-based perovskites, which only afford spectral response across the visible spectrum. This study demonstrates a high-performance near-IR (NIR) photodetector using a stable low-bandgap Sn-containing perovskite, (CH 3 NH 3 ) 0.5 (NH 2 CHNH 2 ) 0.5 Pb 0.5 Sn 0.5 I 3 (MA 0.5 FA 0.5 Pb 0.5 Sn 0.5 I 3 ), which is processed with an antioxidant additive, ascorbic acid (AA). The addition of AA effectively strengthens the stability of Sn-containing perovskite against oxygen, thereby significantly inhibiting the leakage current. Consequently, the derived photodetector shows high responsivity with a detectivity of over 10 12 Jones ranging from 800 to 970 nm. Such low-cost, solution processable NIR photodetectors with high performance show promising potential for future optoelectronic applications.
A low-temperature, solution-processable organic electron-transporting material (ETM) is successfully developed for efficient conventional n-i-p perovskite solar cells (PVSCs). This ETM can show a high efficiency over 17% on rigid device and 14.2% on flexible PVSC. Lastly, to the best of our knowledge, this efficiency is among the highest values reported for flexible n-i-p PVSCs with negligible hysteresis thus far.
The polycrystalline feature of solutionprocessed perovskite film and its ionic nature inevitably incur substantial crystallographic defects, especially at the film surface and the grain boundaries (GBs). Here, a simple defect passivation method was exploited by post-treating CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 (MAPbI 3 ) film with a rationally selected diammonium iodide. The molecular structure of the used diammonium iodide was discovered to play a critical role in affecting the phase purity of treated MAPbI 3 . Both NH 3 I(CH 2 ) 4 NH 3 I and NH 3 I(CH 2 ) 2 O(CH 2 ) 2 NH 3 I (EDBE) induce three-dimensional (3D) to two-dimensional (2D) perovskite phase transformation during the treatment while only NH 3 I(CH 2 ) 8 NH 3 I (C 8 ) successfully passivates perovskite surface and GBs without forming 2D perovskite because of the elevated activation energy arising from its unique anti-gauche isomerization. In conclusion, defect passivation of MAPbI 3 was clearly confirmed by scanning Kelvin probe microscopy (SKPM) and time-resolved photoluminescence (TRPL) studies, which results in the reduced recombination loss in derived devices. Consequently, the perovskite solar cell with C 8 passivation showed a much improved power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 17.60% compared to the control device PCE of 14.64%.
