Daily modulations and broadband strategy in axion searches: An application with the CAST-CAPP detector

It has been previously advocated that the presence of the daily and annual modulations of the axion flux on the Earth’s surface may dramatically change the strategy of the axion searches. The arguments were based on the so-called Axion Quark Nugget (AQN) dark matter model which was originally put forward to explain the similarity of the dark and visible cosmological matter densities Ω dark ∼ Ω visible . In this framework, the population of galactic axions with mass 10 − 6 eV ≲ m a ≲ 10 − 3 eV and velocity ⟨ v a ⟩ ∼ 10 − 3 c will be accompanied by axions with typical velocities ⟨ v a ⟩ ∼ 0.6 c emitted by AQNs. Furthermore, in this framework, it has also been argued that the AQN-induced axion daily modulation (in contrast with the conventional weakly interactive massive particle paradigm) could be as large as (10–20)%, representing the main motivation for the present investigation. We argue that the daily modulations along with the broadband detection strategy can be very useful tools for the discovery of such relativistic axions. The data from the CAST-CAPP detector have been used following such arguments. Unfortunately, due to the dependence of the amplifier chain on temperature-dependent gain drifts and other factors, we could not conclusively show the presence or absence of a dark sector-originated daily modulation. However, this proof of principle analysis procedure can serve as a reference for future studies. Published by the American Physical Society 2025

A mathematical simulation model of the CH-47B helicopter, volume 2

A nonlinear simulation model of the CH-47B helicopter, was adapted for use in a simulation facility. The model represents the specific configuration of the variable stability CH-47B helicopter. Modeling of the helicopter uses a total force approach in six rigid body degrees of freedom. Rotor dynamics are simulated using the Wheatley-Bailey equations, steady state flapping dynamics and included in the model of the option for simulation of external suspension, slung load equations of motion. Validation of the model was accomplished by static and dynamic data from the original Boeing Vertol mathematical model and flight test data. The model is appropriate for use in real time piloted simulation and is implemented on the ARC Sigma IX computer where it may be operated with a digital cycle time of 0.03 sec.

A mathematical simulation model of the CH-47B helicopter, volume 1

A nonlinear simulation model of the CH-47B helicopter was adapted for use in the NASA Ames Research Center (ARC) simulation facility. The model represents the specific configuration of the ARC variable stability CH-47B helicopter and will be used in ground simulation research and to expedite and verify flight experiment design. Modeling of the helicopter uses a total force approach in six rigid body degrees of freedom. Rotor dynamics are simulated using the Wheatlely-Bailey equations including steady-state flapping dynamics. Also included in the model is the option for simulation of external suspension, slung-load equations of motion.

Estimating Pump Blockage

Blockage predicted for all components including inducers, impellers and diffusers. Pump performance predicted by semiempirical method shows excellent agreement with test results in Space Shuttle main-engine highpressure fuel turbopump. Comparisons of pump efficiency show equally good agreement of calculated values with experimental ones. Method improves current estimation methods based solely on subjective engineering judgment.
