Within the framework of the Neutron Target Demonstrator about 1 m 3 of reactor grade graphite is available at LANSCE. In order to evaluate its suitability as a moderator, knowledge about the exact density is important, since it strongly affects the average time neutrons spend in the volume. The graphite is available in different shapes. A brief analysis was done on three different carbon blocks to determine the density of the material as well as the uncertainty in that measurement.
