Preface

Understanding the complex, multi-scale interactions in the Sun-Earth System (SES) remains an important challenge to solar-terrestrial physics research. Processes that occur tens of thousands of kilometers toward the Sun have strong impacts on conditions throughout the entire magnetosphere and down to the upper atmosphere. Furthermore, these disturbances also threaten the ever more sophisticated technologies that we place into the space environment. Increasingly, we need to develop space weather models that can provide timely and accurate predictions so that we can safeguard our society and the infrastructure we depend on.
