A digital computer program for the dynamic interaction simulation of controls and structure (DISCOS), volume 1

A theoretical development and associated digital computer program system for the dynamic simulation and stability analysis of passive and actively controlled spacecraft are presented. The dynamic system (spacecraft) is modeled as an assembly of rigid and/or flexible bodies not necessarily in a topological tree configuration. The computer program system is used to investigate total system dynamic characteristics, including interaction effects between rigid and/or flexible bodies, control systems, and a wide range of environmental loadings. In addition, the program system is used for designing attitude control systems and for evaluating total dynamic system performance, including time domain response and frequency domain stability analyses.

Dynamic response and stability analysis of flexible, multibody systems

A general version of Lagrange's equations, including auxiliary nonholonomic, rheonomic conditions of constraint, is used in the dynamic simulation and stability analysis of interconnected flexible bodies. Modeling of the nonlinear flexible/rigid dynamic coupling effects, the interaction forces/torques, and the elastic deformation effects is discussed. A digital computer program is developed to obtain time-domain solution for the nonlinear response of systems represented as a collection of individual bodies, numerical linearization of system-governing equations, time-domain solution for the perturbation response about a nominal state, and a frequency-domain stability analysis corresponding to the linearization. The digital simulation code is employed to study the dynamic behavior of a typical satellite and a spacecraft with deployable experiment booms.

Coupled base motion response analysis of payload structural systems

Coupled base motion response analysis of payload structural systems is discussed. A systems analysis program is described which by component analysis structural transient response analyses can be completed. The program presents a proven technique, used initially on the Skylab program, which is designed to reduce cost and schedule time on detail structural analyses of structural payload systems. Base motion procedures are employed where critical segments of complex structural systems or components may be analyzed for various load conditions without having to re-establish the entire structural system coupled model properties. The transient response characteristics of a complex structural system are used as a basis for evaluating the transient response of a similar system.

Dynamic analysis of a flexible spacecraft with rotating components. Volume 1: Analytical developments

Analytical procedures and digital computer code are presented for the dynamic analysis of a flexible spacecraft with rotating components. Topics, considered include: (1) nonlinear response in the time domain, and (2) linear response in the frequency domain. The spacecraft is assumed to consist of an assembly of connected rigid or flexible subassemblies. The total system is not restricted to a topological connection arrangement and may be acting under the influence of passive or active control systems and external environments. The analytics and associated digital code provide the user with the capability to establish spacecraft system nonlinear total response for specified initial conditions, linear perturbation response about a calculated or specified nominal motion, general frequency response and graphical display, and spacecraft system stability analysis.
