Long distance quantum communication using quantum error correction

We describe a quantum error correction scheme that can increase the effective absorption length of the communication channel. This device can play the role of a quantum transponder when placed in series, or a cyclic quantum memory when inserted in an optical loop.

Linear optics and projective measurements for fun and profit

The technique of projective measurements in linear optics can provide an apparent, efficient nonlinear interaction between photons, which is technically problematic otherwise. We present an application of such a technique to prepare large photon-number path entanglement.

Quantum metrology

This paper addresses the formal equivalence between the Mach-Zehnder interferometer, the Ramsey spectroscope, and a specific quantum logical gate. Based on this equivalence we introduce the quantum Rosetta Stone, and we describe a projective measurement scheme for generating the desired correlations between the interferometric input states in order to achieve Heisenberg-limited sensitivity.

Optical communication noise rejection using corelated photons

This paper describes a completely new way to perform noise rejection using photons correlated through quantum entanglement to improve an optical communications link in the presence of uncorrelated noise. In particular, a detailed analysis is made of the case where a classical link would be saturated by an intense background, such as when a satellite is in front of the sun, and identifies where the quantum correlating system has superior performance.

Suitability versus fidelity for rating single-photon guns

We show that fidelity, under the standard definitions is not sufficient to assess quantum sources, and we propose a new sufficient to assess quantum sources, and we propose a new measure of suitability that necessarily depends on the application for the source. We consider the performance of single-photon guns in the context of quantum key distribution (QKD) and interferometric quantum computation.
