A general purpose computer-to-computer interface Xerox Sigma computer-to-DEC PDP 11 computer

The Sigma/PDP 11 Interface is a general-purpose system for interconnecting a Xerox Sigma series computer and a DEC PDP 11 series computer. Although the unit is designed to operate in a real-time environment, it can be used in nonreal-time modes as well. Several features, designed to facilitate using the system in varied applications are included in the unit; for example, the features can be used to isolate software or hardware faults. This paper contains descriptions of the hardware and software operations of the interface and examples of real-time applications in the research environment at Ames Research Center.

Real-Time Simulation Computation System

The Real-Time Simulation Computation System, which will provide the flexibility necessary for operation in the research environment at the Ames Research Center is discussed. Designing the system with common subcomponents and using modular construction techniques enhances expandability and maintainability qualities. The 10-MHz series transmission scheme is the basis of the Input/Output Unit System and is the driving force providing the system flexibility. Error checking and detection performed on the transmitted data provide reliability measurements and assurances that accurate data are received at the simulators.

A serial digital data communications device

A general purpose computer peripheral device which is used to provide a full-duplex, serial, digital data transmission link between a Xerox Sigma computer and a wide variety of external equipment, including computers, terminals, and special purpose devices is reported. The interface has an extensive set of user defined options to assist the user in establishing the necessary data links. This report describes those options and other features of the serial communications interface and its performance by discussing its application to a particular problem.

A communications system for the terminal area effectiveness program

The terminal area effectiveness program has the broad scope of evaluating air traffic control (ATC) procedures. One area of interest is pilot acceptance of complex ATC procedures. A means to measure this acceptance is described by studying the impact on pilots of meeting the ATC procedural requirements. The concept-testing system configuration, its operation, and its performance are discussed.
