UREY, a proposed NASA Mars Scout mission will, for the first time, measure the absolute age of an identified igneous rock formation on Mars. By extension to relatively older and younger rock formations dated by remote sensing, these results will enable a new and better understanding of Martian geologic history.
Motivated by previous work of Li and Rimoldi for obtaining bandwidth efficient TCM signals with finite decoding delay, we present an alternative representation for their encoder/signal mapper transmitter structure which merely consists of a single filter having an input equal to the equivalent of the inoput data bits in their implementation.
Radiobiology experiments performed in space will encounter continuous exposures to the cosmic rays and fractionated exposures to trapped protons which accumulate to several hundred dose fractions in a few weeks. Using models of track structure and cellular kinetics combined with models of the radiation environment and radiation transport, we consider calculations of damage rates for cell cultures. Analysis of the role of repair mechanisms for space exposures for the endpoints of survival and transformation is emphasized.
