Horizontal Splitter Design For FFA@CEBAF Energy Upgrade: Current Status

Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab) is currently studying the feasibility of an energy upgrade based upon Fixed-Field Alternating Gradient (FFA) permanent magnet technology. The current plan is to replace the highest-energy recirculation arcs with FFA arcs, increasing the total number of beam recirculations, thus the energy. In order to accommodate multiple passes in the FFA arcs, horizontal splitters are being designed to control the beam parameters entering the FFA arcs, as well as the time of flight and R_56. In the current design, six passes will recirculate through the FFA arcs, necessitating the design of six independent beamlines to control the optics and beam dynamics matching into the arcs. These beamlines must fit into the current CEBAF tunnel, while allowing for personnel and equipment access. They must also be flexible enough to accommodate the beam under realistic operational conditions and fluctuations. The constraints on the system are highly restrictive, complicating the design. This document will describe the current state of the design, and indicate the work remaining for a complete conceptual design.

Multiple Synchrotron Light Monitors for Transverse Matching and Monitoring at CEBAF

Beam setup at the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) involves threading beam through the machine and monitoring global transfer functions to identify and address cumulative lattice errors. Transverse beam emittance may grow by as much as two orders of magnitude, mediated by synchrotron radiation. Re-matching the enlarged beam phase space into successive re-circulation arcs minimizes this emittance growth but requires knowledge of the actual beam distribution. This is now accomplished through quadrupole scans using wire profile monitors, the most time-consuming activity in our setup process. We propose to use Synchrotron Light Monitors (SLMs) to image the beam at homologous points in the four super-period recirculation arc lattices. Benefits include real-time monitoring of beam parameters and reduced elapsed time for initial setup. These SLMs will be installed in Arc 7 of the CEBAF machine, where Synchrotron Radiation contributes moderately to emittance growth. One of four required SLMs will be installed and commissioned this year, with the rest being installed next year.

Total Ionizing Dose Test of Microsemi's Silicon Switching Transistors JANTXV2N2222AUB and 2N2907AUB

Microsemi's silicon switching transistors, JANTXV2N2222AUB and 2N2907AUB, were tested for total ionizing dose (TID) response beginning on July 11, 2016. This test served as the radiation lot acceptance test (RLAT) for the lot date code (LDC) tested. Low dose rate (LDR) irradiations were performed in this test so that the device susceptibility to enhanced low dose rate sensitivity (ELDRS) could be determined.

Compact monitoring and control console for pressurized gas bottles

Compact monitoring and control console dispenses gas over a range of pressures from conventional compressed-gas cylinders. It incorporates in a single assembly the necessary equipment for a portable pressurization system that can be used in welding and other operations requiring a controlled gas supply.
