Examples Of Synthesis Of Dual-Shaped Reflectors

Report presents examples to demonstrate validity and utility of method of synthesis of offset dual-shape reflectors. Method of synthesis described by the authors in previous journal article. Current report reviews derivation of partial differential equations and iterative method of numerical solution. Discusses significance of starting point of numerical integration on each reflector surface; this point could be at center, on outer rim, or at interior point. Emphasizes that one of notable attributes of partial differential equations is speed with which they can be solved.

Designing A Beam Waveguide For Multiple Frequencies

Paper addresses defocusing and diffraction effects important in design of beam waveguide. Phase center of beam waveguide at lower frequency differs from focal point of geometric optics. If antenna system optimized for higher frequency, shift in phase center causes defocusing, with loss of signal at lower frequency. Defocusing caused by diffraction at lower frequencies reduced by shaping input pattern.

Caustic Singularities Of High-Gain, Dual-Shaped Reflectors

Report presents study of some sources of error in analysis, by geometric theory of diffraction (GTD), of performance of high-gain, dual-shaped antenna reflector. Study probes into underlying analytic causes of singularity, with view toward devising and testing practical methods to avoid problems caused by singularity. Hybrid physical optics (PO) approach used to study near-field spillover or noise-temperature characteristics of high-gain relector antenna efficiently and accurately. Report illustrates this approach and underlying principles by presenting numerical results, for both offset and symmetrical reflector systems, computed by GTD, PO, and PO/GO methods.

Time-Zone-Pattern Satellite Broadcasting Antenna

Direct-broadcast satellite antenna designs provide contoured beams to match four time zones in 48 contiguous states and spot beams for Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico presented in 29-page report. Includes descriptions of procedures used to arrive at optimized designs. Arrangements, amplitudes, and phases of antenna feeds presented in tables. Gain contours shown graphically. Additional tables of performance data given for cities in service area of Eastern satellite.
