Three New Spiral Galaxies with Active Nuclei Producing Double Radio Lobes

Abstract Double radio lobes are generally believed to be produced by active nuclei of elliptical galaxies. However, several double-lobed radio sources have been solidly found to be associated with spiral galaxies. By cross-matching ∼9 × 10 5 spiral galaxies selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey DR8 data with the full 1.4 GHz radio source catalogs of NRAO VLA Sky Survey and Faint Images of the Radio Sky at Twenty-centimeters, we identify three new spiral galaxies: J0326−0623, J1110+0321 and J1134+3046 that produce double radio lobes, and five double-lobed spirals previously known. By combining the newly discovered and all the other known cases in literature, we confirm the relation that more massive spiral galaxies could produce more powerful radio lobes. We find that most of these spiral galaxies are located in a galaxy group or a poor cluster, in which the environment is denser than in the field, and about half of them are the central brightest galaxies in their parent system. We therefore suggest that the environment is one of the key factors for a spiral to produce double radio lobes.

Mott transition controlled by lattice-orbital coupling in 3 d -metal-doped double-layer ruthenates

We have investigated unusual phase transitions that were triggered by chemical doping in Ca 3 Ru 2 O 7 . Our experiments showed that doping with a few percent of Mn (>4%) can change the quasi-two-dimensional metallic state of Ca 3 Ru 2 O 7 into a Mott insulating state with a G-type antiferromagnetic order, but this Mott state cannot be induced by Fe doping. By combining these results with first-principles calculations, we show that lattice-orbital coupling (LOC) plays an important role in the Mott transition. Interestingly, the transition temperature T MIT is found to be predetermined by a structural parameter denoted by c/√ab at temperatures far above Néel temperature T N . This LOC-assisted Mott transition clearly contrasts with the band-filling picture. It is addressed that this type of Mott transition originates in the strong scattering centers formed by specific 3d dopants. The dopant-scattering picture is then applied to explain the puzzling doping effects that occur in other ruthenates and 3d oxides. As a result, our findings will advance the general understanding of how the unusual properties of 4d correlated systems are governed by the complex interplay that occurs among the charge, spin, lattice, and orbital degrees of freedom.

Determination of the Spin and Parity of the Z c ( 3900 )

In this paper, the spin and parity of the Z c (3900) ± state are determined to be J P = 1 + with a statistical significance larger than 7σ over other quantum numbers in a partial wave analysis of the process e + e - → π + π - J/Ψ. We use a data sample of 1.92 fb -1 accumulated at $ \sqrt{s}=4.23 $ and 4.26 GeV with the BESIII experiment. When parametrizing the Z c (3900) ± with a Flatté-like formula, we determine its pole mass M pole = (3881.2±4.2 stat ±52.7 syst ) MeV/c 2 and pole width Γ pole = (51.8± 4.6 stat ± 36.0 syst ) MeV. Finally, we also measure cross sections for the process e + e - → Z c (3900) + π - + c.c. → J/Ψπ + π - and determine an upper limit at the 90% confidence level for the process e + e - → Z c (4020) + π - + c.c. → J/Ψ π + π - .

Measurement of higher-order multipole amplitudes in ψ ( 3686 ) → γ χ c 1 , 2 with χ c 1 , 2 → γ J / ψ and search for the transition η c ( 2 S ) → γ J / ψ

Using 106 ×10 6 ψ (3686) events collected with the BESIII detector, we measure multipole amplitudes for the decay ψ (3686) → γχ c1,2 → γγ J/ψ beyond the dominant electric-dipole amplitudes. The normalized magnetic-quadrupole (M2) amplitude for ψ (3686) → γχ c1,2 → γγ J/ψ and the normalized electric-octupole amplitudes for ψ ( 3686 ) → γχ c2 , χ c2 → γJ/ψ are determined. The M2 amplitudes for ψ (3686) → γ χ c1 and χ c1,2 → γ J / ψ are found to differ significantly from zero and are consistent with theoretical predictions. We also obtain the ratios of M2 contributions of ψ ( 3686 ) and J /ψ decays to χ c1,2 , b$1\atop{2}$/ b$2\atop{2}$ = 1.35 ± 0.72 and a$1\atop{2}$/a$2\atop{2}$ = 0.617 ± 0.083 , which agree well with theoretical expectations. By considering the multipole contributions of χ c 1 , 2 , we measure the product branching fractions for the cascade decays ψ ( 3686 ) → γχ c0,1,2 → γγJ/ψ and search for the process η c (2S) → γJ/ψ through ψ ( 3686 ) → γη c (2S). The product branching fraction for ψ (3686) → γχ c0 → γγJ/ψ is 3σ larger than published measurements, while those of ψ (3686) → γχ c1,2 → γγJ/ψ are consistent. In conclusion, no significant signal for the decay ψ ( 3686 ) → γη c (2S) → γγJ/ψ is observed, and the upper limit of the product branching fraction at the 90% confidence level is determined.

Amplitude Analysis of the Decays η ' → π + π - π 0 and η ' → π 0 π 0 π 0

Based on a sample of 1.31 × 10 9 J / ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, an amplitude analysis of the isospin-violating decays η'→ π + π - π 0 and η' → π 0 π 0 π 0 is performed. A significant P-wave contribution from η'→ ρ ± π ∓ is observed for the first time in η' → π + π - π 0 . The branching fraction is determined to be B ( η'→ ρ ± π ∓ ) = ( 7.44 ± 0.60 ± 1.26 ± 1.84 ) × 10 -4 , where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third model dependent. In addition to the nonresonant S -wave component, there is a significant σ meson component. The branching fractions of the combined S -wave components are determined to be B ( η' → π + π - π 0 ) S = ( 37.63 ± 0.77 ± 2.22 ± 4.48 ) × 10 -4 and B ( η' → π 0 π 0 π 0 ) = ( 35.22 ± 0.82 ± 2.54 ) × 10 -4 , respectively. Finally, the latter one is consistent with previous BESIII measurements.

Measurement of the absolute branching fraction of D + → $\bar{K}$ 0 e + ν e via $\bar{K}$ 0 → π 0 π 0

By analyzing 2.93 fb–1 data collected at the center-of-mass energy with the BESIII detector, we measure the absolute branching fraction of the semileptonic decay D+ → $\bar{K}$0 e+νe to be Β(D + → $\bar{K}$ 0 e + ν e ) = (8.59 ± 0.14 ± 0.21)% using $\bar{K}$ 0 → K 0 s → π 0 π 0 , where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. Finally, our result is consistent with previous measurements within uncertainties..

Determination of the number of J/ψ events with inclusive J/ψ decays

A measurement of the number of J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector in 2009 and 2012 is performed using inclusive decays of the J/ψ. The number of J/ψ events taken in 2009 is recalculated to be (223.7 ± 1.4) × 10 6 , which is in good agreement with the previous measurement, but with significantly improved precision due to improvements in the BESIII software. The number of J/ψ events taken in 2012 is determined to be (1086.9 ± 6.0) × 10 6 . In total, the number of J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector is measured to be (1310.6 ± 7.0) × 10 6 , where the uncertainty is dominated by systematic effects and the statistical uncertainty is negligible.
