Quasielastic $\overrightarrow{^{3}He}$ $(\overrightarrow{e},e′)$ asymmetry in the threshold region with a longitudinally polarized target

We report on the measurements of the double-spin asymmetry from electron- 3 He scattering in the threshold region of two- and three-body breakup of 3 He for 4-momentum transfer values of 0.1 and 0.2 (GeV/c) 2 . The measurement was done at Jefferson Lab using a polarized 3 He target with its spin aligned parallel to the beam direction. This asymmetry is sensitive to a combination of spin-dependent response functions not previously measured and may highlight differences in two body forces, meson-exchange currents and final-state interactions. The results of this measurement serve as a test of our understanding of few-body systems. When compared with calculations from plane wave impulse approximation and Faddeev calculations, we found that the latter, which use modern nuclear potentials and prescriptions for meson-exchange currents, demonstrate an overall good agreement with data.

Dispersion kinks from electronic correlations in an unconventional iron-based superconductor

The attractive interaction in conventional BCS superconductors is provided by a bosonic mode. However, the pairing glue of most unconventional superconductors is unknown. The effect of electron-boson coupling is therefore extensively studied in these materials. A key signature are dispersion kinks that can be observed in the spectral function as abrupt changes in velocity and lifetime of quasiparticles. Here, we show the existence of two kinks in the unconventional iron-based superconductor RbFe 2 As 2 using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and dynami- cal mean field theory (DMFT). In addition, we observe the formation of a Hubbard band multiplet due to the combination of Coulomb interaction and Hund’s rule coupling in this multiorbital systems. We demonstrate that the two dispersion kinks are a consequence of these strong many-body interactions. This interpretation is in line with a growing number of theoretical predictions for kinks in various general models of correlated materials. Our results provide a unifying link between iron-based superconductors and different classes of correlated, unconventional superconductors such as cuprates and heavy-fermion materials.

Magnetic ground state and perturbations of the distorted kagome Ising metal TmAgGe

Here, we present the magnetic orders and excitations of the distorted kagome intermetallic magnet TmAgGe. Using neutron single crystal diffraction we identify the propagation vectors k = ($\frac{1}{2}$ 0 0) and k = (0 0 0) and determine the magnetic structures of the zero-field and magnetic field-induced phases for H along the $\mathcal{a}$ and [–110] crystal directions. We determine the experimental magnetic field- temperature (H, T)-phase diagram and reproduce it by Monte Carlo simulations of an effective spin exchange Hamiltonian for one distorted kagome layer. Our model includes a strong axial single-ion anisotropy and significantly smaller exchange couplings, which span up to the third-nearest neighbors within the layer. Single crystal inelastic neutron scattering (INS) measurements reveal an almost flat, only weakly dispersive mode around 7 meV that we use alongside bulk magnetization data to deduce the crystal-electric field (CEF) scheme for the Tm 3+ ions. Random phase approximation (RPA) calculations based on the determined CEF wave functions of the two lowest quasidoublets enable an estimation of the interlayer coupling that is compatible with the experimental INS spectra. No evidence for low-energy spin waves associated to the magnetic order was found, which is consistent with the strongly Ising nature of the ground state.

Connection between coherent phonons and electron-phonon coupling in Sb (111)

We report time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (trARPES) measurements on the Sb(111) surface. We observe band- and momentum-dependent binding-energy oscillations in the bulk and surface bands driven by $A_{1g}$ and $E_{g}$ coherent phonons. While the bulk band shows simultaneous $A_{1g}$ and $E_{g}$ oscillations, the surface bands show either $A_{1g}$ or $E_{g}$ oscillations. The observed behavior is reproduced by frozen-phonon calculations based on density-functional theory. Furthermore, this evidences the connection between electron-phonon coupling and coherent binding energy dynamics tied to lattice vibration and confirms that band-, momentum-, and mode-dependent electron-phonon coupling can indeed be probed by trARPES in the low fluence limit.

Anisotropic quasiparticle coherence in nematic BaFe 2 As 2 studied with strain-dependent ARPES

The hallmark of nematic order in iron-based superconductors is a resistivity anisotropy but it is unclear to which extent quasiparticle dispersions, lifetimes, and coherence contribute. While the lifted degeneracy of the Fe d xz and d yz dispersions has been studied extensively, only little is known about the two other factors. In this work, we combine in situ strain tuning with ARPES and study the nematic response of the spectral weight in BaFe 2 As 2 . The symmetry analysis of the ARPES spectra demonstrates that the d xz band gains quasiparticle spectral weight compared to the d yz band for negative antisymmetric strain Δε yy suggesting the same response inside the nematic phase. Our results are compatible with a different coherence of the d xz and d yz orbital within a Hund's metal picture. We also discuss the influence of orbital mixing.
