A Hand Held Ratioing Radiometer for remote radiance measurements

The small, lightweight Hand Held Ratioing Radiometer (HHRR) measures the ratio of spectral reflectance in any of 25 pairs of narrow bands in the 400 to 2500 nanometer spectral region. Two parallel optical trains view the scene through separate filters mounted in two filter wheels each containing five filters. Absolute reflectance of the scene can also be measured. HHRR is particularly useful for ground truth studies for the interpretation of imagery from Landsat, the thematic mappers and the forthcoming SPOT satellite. Its small size and simplicity of operation make it useful to geologists, botanists, oceanographers and many other geotechnologists.

Seasat land experiments

An overview of the Seasat land experiments is presented. The potential roles for active microwave imaging systems on board satellites were reviewed with particular emphasis on the Seasat Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). Recommendations were made concerning the type of experiments that could most profitably be conducted over land with the Seasat SAR system capabilities available.

Remote sensing of lunar color differences using isoluminous enhancement techniques.

An isoluminous method of processing and viewing multispectral lunar imagery was developed in an effort to enhance the very subtle color variations seen on the lunar surface. The new technique normalizes the achromatic shades of gray to a common value and displays any small spectral reflectivity shifts as vivid colors. The primary advantage of the isoluminous method is its ability to present two objects (having the same spectral distribution) as the exact same color on the viewer screen regardless of any brightness difference which may exist between the two.
