Mass radius and D-term of atomic nuclei in relativistic mean field theory

Based on relativistic mean field theory for atomic nuclei, we compute the mass radius and other radii associated with the energy momentum tensor for dozens of spin-0 nuclei across the nuclear chart. We also compute the D-term of these nuclei, the forward limit of the gravitational form factor 𝐷⁡(𝑡=0)=𝐷. The dependence on the neutron number 𝑁 is systematically studied for calcium (Ca), nickel (Ni), zirconium (Zr), tin (Sn), and lead (Pb) isotopes. Remarkably, |𝐷| does not monotonically increase with 𝑁. Instead, it exhibits local maxima and minima when 𝑁 equals a magic number and even a submagic number. This results in characteristic kinks in the mass, scalar, tensor, and shear radii of these isotopes. Our work for the first time elucidates the strong sensitivity of the various mechanical properties of nuclei to the nuclear shell structure.

Single spin asymmetry in e+p → e′ +B↑ +X

We study an exotic type of single spin asymmetry in unpolarized electron-proton scattering, in which the outgoing electron momentum exhibits a left-right asymmetry relative to the transverse spin of the leading baryon B in the target fragmentation region. We lay out two theoretical frameworks for describing this effect: The twist-three fracture function at high-Q2 and the spin-dependent odderon in the high energy limit.

Exploring orbital angular momentum and spin-orbit correlations for gluons at the Electron-Ion Collider

In our previous work [S. Bhattacharya , ], we introduced a pioneering observable aimed at experimentally detecting the orbital angular momentum (OAM) of gluons. Our focus was on the longitudinal double spin asymmetry observed in exclusive dijet production during electron-proton scattering. We demonstrated the sensitivity of the cos ϕ angular correlation between the scattered electron and proton as a probe for gluon OAM at small x and its intricate interplay with gluon helicity. This current work provides a comprehensive exposition, diving further into the aforementioned calculation with added elaboration and in-depth analysis. We reveal that, in addition to the gluon OAM, one also gains access to the spin-orbit correlation of gluons. We supplement our work with a detailed numerical analysis of our observables for the kinematics of the Electron-Ion Collider. In addition to dijet production, we also consider the recently proposed semi-inclusive diffractive deep inelastic scattering process, which potentially offers experimental advantages over dijet measurements. Finally, we investigate quark-channel contributions to these processes and find an unexpected breakdown of collinear factorization. Published by the American Physical Society 2025

Nonlocal chiral anomaly and generalized parton distributions

We discuss the nonlocal generalization of the QCD chiral anomaly along the light cone and derive relations between twist-two, twist-three, and twist-four generalized parton distributions (GPDs) mediated by the anomaly. We further establish the connection to the “anomaly pole” in the GPD E ˜ recently identified in the perturbative calculation of the Compton scattering amplitudes, and demonstrate its cancellation at the GPD level. Our work helps elucidate the previously unexplored connection between GPDs, the chiral anomaly, and the mass generation of the η ′ meson. Published by the American Physical Society 2025

Nuclear mass radius and pressure in the Skyrme model

We compute the mass radius, scalar radius, tensor radius, baryon number radius, and mechanical radius of nuclei with baryon number B = 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 32, 108 in the Skyrme model. The relations between these radii and the nuclear gravitational form factors are investigated. We also compute the ‘pressure’ distribution and find that it is negative in the core region for all the nuclei with B > 1 . This suggests that the way mechanical stability is achieved in nuclei is qualitatively different than in the nucleon. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Perturbative QCD contribution to transverse single spin asymmetries in the Drell-Yan process and SIDIS

In a previous publication [Benić , ], we have computed the perturbative QCD contribution to transverse single spin asymmetries (SSAs) in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) involving the g T ( x ) distribution. In this paper, we first present a more efficient derivation of the asymmetries which is applicable to both transverse and longitudinal SSAs and correct some inconsistencies in our previous calculation. We then adapt the method to compute transverse SSAs in the Drell-Yan process proportional to g T ( x ) and its gluonic counterpart and discuss the crossing symmetry between the results for SIDIS and the Drell-Yan process. Finally, we present numerical results for various asymmetries measurable at the EIC, RHIC, COMPASS, and Fermilab (SpinQuest), including also part of the genuine twist-three corrections to g T ( x ) from a recent global analysis. We find that the asymmetries can reach percent-level magnitude, if the kinematics predominantly probes the large- x (valence) region of the polarized proton, but remain at subpercent levels otherwise.
