Failure modes and damage accumulation in laminated composites with free edges
The influence of fiber orientation, stacking sequence, material properties and edge effects on the accumulation of damage and modes of failure in angle-ply and quasi-isotropic composite laminates are studied. Experimental results are presented for graphite-epoxy and graphite-polyimide coupons subjected to tensile load. It is shown that all the parameters studied can have a significant influence on the behavior of the composite.
