Ultrasonic Imaging Of Deep Arteries

Swept-frequency sound replaces pulsed sound. Ultrasonic medical instrument produces images of peripheral and coronary arteries with resolutions higher and at depths greater than attainable by previous ultrasonic systems. Time-delay-spectrometry imager includes scanning, image-processing, and displaying equipment. It sweeps in frequency from 0 to 10 MHz in 20 ms, pauses for 5 ms, and repeats sweep. Intended for use in noninvasive detection and measurement of atherosclerotic lesions.

Method and apparatus for reflection mode imaging

A volume is scanned with a raster scan about a center of rotation using a transmitter/receiver at a selected range while gating a range window on the receiver with a selected range differential. The received signals are then demodulated to obtain signals representative of a property within the volume being scanned such as the density of a tumor. The range is varied until the entire volume has been scanned at all ranges to be displayed. An imaging display is synchronously scanned together with the raster scan to display variations of the property on the display. A second transmitter/receiver with associated equipment may be offset from the first and variations displayed from each of the transmitter/receivers on its separate display. The displays may then be combined stereoscopically to provide a three-dimensional image representative of variations of the property.

Ultrasonic Measurement Of Silicon-Growth Interface

Position of interface between silicon melt and growing ribbon of silicon measured with aid of reflected ultrasound, according to proposal. Reflections reveal characteristics of ribbon and melt. Ultrasound pulses travel through rods to silicon ribbon growing by dendritic-web process. Rods return reflections of pulses to sonic transducers. Isolate transducers thermally, but not acoustically, from hot silicon melt.

Medical tomograph system using ultrasonic transmission

Ultrasonic energy transmission in rectilinear array scanning patterns of soft tissue provides projection density values of the tissue which are recorded as a function of scanning position and angular relationship, .theta., of the subject with a fixed coordinate system. A plurality of rectilinear scan arrays in the same plane for different angular relationships .theta..sub.1 . . . .theta..sub.n thus recorded are superimposed. The superimposition of intensity values thus yields a tomographic image of an internal section of the tissue in the scanning plane.
