Integration of Rucio Metadata in Belle II

Rucio is a Data Management software that has become a de-facto standard in the HEP community and beyond. It allows the management of large volumes of data over their full lifecycle. The Belle II experiment located at KEK (Japan) recently moved to Rucio to manage its data over the coming decade (O(10) PB/year). In addition to its Data Management functionalities, Rucio also provides support for storing generic metadata. Rucio metadata already provides accurate accounting of the data stored all over the sites serving Belle II. Annotating files with generic metadata opens up possibilities for finer-grained metadata query support. We will first introduce some of the new developments aimed at providing good performance that were done to cover Belle II use-cases like bulk insert methods, metadata inheritance, etc. We will then describe the various tests performed to validate Rucio generic metadata at Belle II scale (O(100M) files), detailing the import and performance tests that were made.

XRootD Third Party Copy for the WLCG and HL- LHC

A Third Party Copy (TPC) mechanism has existed in the pure XRootD storage environment for many years. However, using the XRootD TPC in the WLCG environment presents additional challenges due to the diversity of the storage systems involved such as EOS, dCache, DPM and ECHO, requiring that we carefully navigate the unique constraints imposed by these storage systems and their site-specific environments through customized configuration and software development. To support multitenant setups seen at many WLCG sites, X509 based authentication and authorization in XRootD was significantly improved to meet both security and functionality requirements. This paper presents architecture of the pull based TPC with optional X509 credential delegation, and how it is implemented in native XRootD and dCache. The paper discusses technical requirements, challenges, design choices and implementation details in the WLCG storage systems, as well as in FTS/gfal2. It also outlines XRootD's plan to support newer TPC and security models such as token based authorization. 1

A global R&D storage platform implementing distributed Quality of Service [PowerPoint]

The objectives of the program include: Provide facility R&D to match software R&D; Providing a federated system for the optimization of the various storage types (QoS) and reduction of the required manpower to operate storage; and, ''Data lake'': Hiding complexity behind common interfaces and leave it to the distributed lake infrastructure to solve those issues, being: Transpareent change of storage technologies (time, price); and, Data available for low latency access when needed (staging) and safely archived if configured (Long term archive).
