Recent developments in global seismic tomography provide three-dimensional views of S-wave structure throughout the mantle.
Recent tomographic views of mantle are used to estimate corresponding lateral variations in effective viscosity under the assumption that temperature fluctuations about spherically symmetric mean values are the sole source of shear wave velocity anomalies.
The peak vertical velocities predicted by three realistic scenarios of Antarctic ice sheet mass balance are found to be of the order of several mm/a.
