We consider two-dimensional N = ( 2 , 2 ) Yang-Mills theory with gauge group SU ( N ) in Euclidean signature compactified on a torus with thermal fermion boundary conditions imposed on one cycle. We perform nonperturbative lattice analyses of this theory for large 12 ≤ N ≤ 20 . Although no holographic dual of this theory is yet known, we conduct numerical investigations to check for features similar to the two-dimensional N = ( 8 , 8 ) Yang–Mills theory, which has a well-defined gravity dual. We perform lattice field theory calculations to determine the phase diagram, observing a spatial deconfinement transition similar to the maximally supersymmetric case. However, the transition does not continue to low temperature, implying the absence of a topology-changing transition between black hole geometries in any holographic dual for this four-supercharge theory. We study the continuous phase transition and thermodynamic observables in the three-dimensional Euclidean S U ( 2 ) principal chiral field model with the triad tensor renormalization group and the anisotropic tensor renormalization group methods. Using these methods, we find results that are consistent with previous Monte Carlo estimates and the predicted renormalization group scaling of the magnetization close to criticality. These results bring us one step closer to studying finite-density quantum chromodynamics in four dimensions using tensor network methods. Published by the American Physical Society 2024
We use the higher-order tensor renormalization group method to study the two-dimensional generalized XY model that admits integer and half-integer vortices. This model is the deformation of the classical XY model and has a rich phase structure consisting of nematic, ferromagnetic, and disordered phases and three transition lines belonging to the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless and Ising class. We explore the model for a wide range of temperatures, T , and the deformation parameter, Δ , and compute specific heat along with integer and half-integer magnetic susceptibility, finding both Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless-like and Ising-like transitions and the region where they meet. We propose additional tests of holography by studying supersymmetric Wilson loops in p+1-dimensional maximally supersymmetric Yang?Mills (SYM) theories on the lattice in the large N limit. In the dual gravity description, this computation involves calculating the area of a fundamental string worldsheet in certain Type II supergravity backgrounds. Though thermodynamic observables have been computed on the lattice using Monte Carlo methods and agree with the supergravity results in various dimensions, not much has been done for the gauge-invariant operators such as the Wilson loop. We provide analytical predictions for these loops for various non-conformal Dp-brane background cases with ? ? 2 p?2 in the large N limit and comment on how these can be computed on non-orthogonal lattices in various models.
