JPL Power Systems for Current Planned Missions

The viewgraph presentation includes fact sheets, instrument lists, and mission parameters for 13 future missions. Those missions include Moon Mineralogy Mapping (MMM), Space Interferometry Mission (SIM), New Millennium--Space Technology-8 (ST-8), Ocean Salinity Mapping Orbiter (Aquarius), Ocean Surface Topology Mission (OSTM), Asteroid Rendezvous Mission-SEP (Dawn), Mars Scout Lander Mission (Phoenix), Solar Powered Jupiter Orbiter (Juno), Earth orbiting carbon observatory (OCO), planet finder observatory (Kepler), far infrared/sub-millimeter telescope (Hershel), Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE), and Mars Science Laboratory-Rover (MSL). The presentation also contains a table of current missions and instruments.

Europa Orbiter: Mass Memory Requirements and Status

This viewgraph presentation gives an overview of the Europa Orbiter's mass memory requirements and status. Details are given on the challenge of the mission to Europa, baseline size requirements, implementations considered, candidate technologies, prime technologies and methodology, and a proposed solution and implementation. Flash and non-volatile memory technologies are described.

Hybrid-Circuit Module For Dc-To-Dc Power Converter

Power hybrid module is general-purpose power-switching module providing flexibility in design and application. Complete dc-to-dc power converter constructed by adding input/output filters and feedback circuitry to module to suit specific application.

Embedded Temperature-Change Sensors

Transducers sensitive to rates of change of temperature embedded in integrated circuits and discrete electronic components damaged by overheating, according to proposal. Used to detect onset of rapid heating and to trigger shutoffs of power or other corrective actions before temperatures rise beyond safe limits. Sensors respond fast and reliably to incipient overheating because they are in direct thermal contact with vulnerable circuit elements.

Multilayer Thin-Film Microcapacitors

Miniature capacitors containing multiple alternating thin-film dielectric and metal layers proposed, especially for use in integrated and hybrid electronic circuits. Because capacitance inversely proportional to thickness of dielectric layers, use of thin, high-quality dielectric layers affords capacitance and energy-storage densities much greater than now available. These devices much smaller and more reliable than state-of-art capacitors.
