Solar neutrino measurements using the full data period of Super-Kamiokande-IV

An analysis of solar neutrino data from the fourth phase of Super-Kamiokande (SK-IV) from October 2008 to May 2018 is performed and the results are presented. The observation time of the dataset of SK-IV corresponds to 2970 days and the total live time for all four phases is 5805 days. For more precise solar neutrino measurements, several improvements are applied in this analysis: lowering the data acquisition threshold in May 2015, further reduction of the spallation background using neutron clustering events, precise energy reconstruction considering the time variation of the PMT gain. The observed number of solar neutrino events in 3.49–19.49 MeV electron kinetic energy region during SK-IV is 65,443 − 388 + 390 ( stat . ) ± 925 ( syst . ) events. Corresponding B 8 solar neutrino flux is ( 2.314 ± 0.014 ( stat . ) ± 0.040 ( syst . ) ) × 10 6 cm − 2 s − 1 , assuming a pure electron-neutrino flavor component without neutrino oscillations. The flux combined with all SK phases up to SK-IV is ( 2.336 ± 0.011 ( stat . ) ± 0.043 ( syst . ) ) × 10 6 cm − 2 s − 1 . Based on the neutrino oscillation analysis from all solar experiments, including the SK 5805 days dataset, the best-fit neutrino oscillation parameters are sin 2 θ 12 , solar = 0.306 ± 0.013 and Δ m 21 , solar 2 = ( 6.1 0 − 0.81 + 0.95 ) × 10 − 5 eV 2 , with a deviation of about 1.5 σ from the Δ m 21 2 parameter obtained by KamLAND. The best-fit neutrino oscillation parameters obtained from all solar experiments and KamLAND are sin 2 θ 12 , global = 0.307 ± 0.012 and Δ m 21 , global 2 = ( 7.5 0 − 0.18 + 0.19 ) × 10 − 5 eV 2 . Neutron tagging following atmospheric neutrino events in a water Cherenkov detector

We present the development of neutron-tagging techniques in Super-Kamiokande IV using a neural network analysis. The detection efficiency of neutron capture on hydrogen is estimated to be 26%, with a mis-tag rate of 0.016 per neutrino event. The uncertainty of the tagging efficiency is estimated to be 9.0%. Measurement of the tagging efficiency with data from an Americium-Beryllium calibration agrees with this value within 10%. The tagging procedure was performed on 3,244.4 days of SK-IV atmospheric neutrino data, identifying 18,091 neutrons in 26,473 neutrino events. The fitted neutron capture lifetime was measured as 218±9 μs.

B-flavor tagging at Belle II

We report on new flavor tagging algorithms developed to determine the quark-flavor content of bottom (B) mesons at Belle II. The algorithms provide essential inputs for measurements of quark-flavor mixing and charge-parity violation. We validate and evaluate the performance of the algorithms using hadronic B decays with flavor-specific final states reconstructed in a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 62.8fb -1 , collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. We measure the total effective tagging efficiency to be ε eff = (30.0 ± 1.2(stat) ± 0.4(syst))% for a category-based algorithm and ε eff = (28.8 ± 1.2(stat) ± 0.4(syst))% for a deep learning-based algorithm.

First measurement of the \( {\Lambda}_c^{+} \) → pη ' decay

We present the first measurement of the branching fraction of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed (SCS) decay \( {\Lambda}_c^{+} \) → pη ' with η ' → ηπ + π – , using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 981 fb – 1 , collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB e + e – asymmetric-energy collider. A significant \( {\Lambda}_c^{+} \) → pη ' signal is observed for the first time with a signal significance of 5.4 σ . The relative branching fraction with respect to the normalization mode \( {\Lambda}_c^{+} \) → pK – π + is measured to be $$ \frac{\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p\eta^{\prime}\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {pK}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right)}=\left(7.54\pm 1.32\pm 0.73\right)\times {10}^{-3}, $$ where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. Using the world-average value of \( \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {pK}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right) \) = (6 . 28 ± 0 . 32) × 10 – 2 , we obtain $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p\eta^{\prime}\right)=\left(4.73\pm 0.82\pm 0.46\pm 0.24\right)\times {10}^{-4}, $$ where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and from \( \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {pK}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right) \) , respectively.

Search for lepton-flavor-violating tau-lepton decays to ℓγ at Belle

Charged lepton flavor violation is forbidden in the Standard Model but possible in several new physics scenarios. In many of these models, the radiative decays τ ± → ℓ ± γ (ℓ = e, μ) are predicted to have a sizeable probability, making them particularly interesting channels to search at various experiments. An updated search via τ ± → ℓ ± γ using full data of the Belle experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 988 fb –1 , is reported for charged lepton flavor violation. No significant excess over background predictions from the Standard Model is observed, and the upper limits on the branching fractions, B(τ ± → μ ± γ) ≤ 4.2 × 10 –8 and B(τ ± → e ± γ) ≤ 5.6 × 10 –8 , are set at 90% confidence level.

Measurements of branching fractions and asymmetry parameters of $ {\Xi}_c^0\to \Lambda {\overline{K}}^{\ast 0} $, $ {\Xi}_c^0\to {\Sigma}^0{\overline{K}}^{\ast 0} $, and $ {\Xi}_c^0\to {\Sigma}^{+}{K}^{\ast -} $ decays at Belle

Using a data sample of 980 fb -1 collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e - collider, we study the processes of ${\Xi}_c^0\to \Lambda {\overline{K}}^{\ast 0}$, ${\Xi}_c^0\to {\Sigma}^0{\overline{K}}^{\ast 0}$, and ${\Xi}_c^0\to {\Sigma}^{+}{K}^{\ast -}$ for the first time. The relative branching ratios to the normalization mode of ${\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^{-}{\pi}^{+}$ are measured to be ${\displaystyle \begin{array}{c}\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to \Lambda {\overline{K}}^{\ast 0}\right)/\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right)=0.18\pm 0.02\left(\mathrm{stat}.\right)\pm 0.01\left(\mathrm{syst}.\right),\\ {}\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Sigma}^0{\overline{K}}^{\ast 0}\right)/\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right)=0.69\pm 0.03\left(\mathrm{stat}.\right)\pm 0.03\left(\mathrm{syst}.\right),\\ {}\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Sigma}^{+}{K}^{\ast -}\right)/\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right)=0.34\pm 0.06\left(\mathrm{stat}.\right)\pm 0.02\left(\mathrm{syst}.\right),\end{array}}$ where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. We obtain ${\displaystyle \begin{array}{c}\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to \Lambda {\overline{K}}^{\ast 0}\right)=\left(3.3\pm 0.3\left(\mathrm{stat}.\right)\pm 0.2\left(\mathrm{syst}.\right)\pm 1.0\left(\mathrm{ref}.\right)\right)\times {10}^{-3},\\ {}\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Sigma}^0{\overline{K}}^{\ast 0}\right)=\left(12.4\pm 0.5\left(\mathrm{stat}.\right)\pm 0.5\left(\mathrm{syst}.\right)\pm 3.6\left(\mathrm{ref}.\right)\right)\times {10}^{-3},\\ {}\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Sigma}^{+}{K}^{\ast 0}\right)=\left(6.1\pm 1.0\left(\mathrm{stat}.\right)\pm 0.4\left(\mathrm{syst}.\right)\pm 1.8\left(\mathrm{ref}.\right)\right)\times {10}^{-3},\end{array}}$ where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and from $\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right)$, respectively. The asymmetry parameters $\alpha \left({\Xi}_c^0\to \Lambda {\overline{K}}^{\ast 0}\right)$ and $\alpha \left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Sigma}^{+}{K}^{\ast -}\right)$ are 0.15 ± 0.22(stat.) ± 0.04(syst.) and -0.52 ± 0.30(stat.) ± 0.02(syst.), respectively, where the uncertainties are statistical followed by systematic.

Spectral characteristics of Pc 3 and Pc 4/5 magnetic pulsation bands observed near L = 6

The relationships among Pc 3, Pc 4, and Pc 5 activities observed at ground stations near L = 6 are clarified by comparing their dynamic spectral structures. It is found that there are two predominant spectral bands throughout the daytime with frequencies of about 20-80 mHz and about 3-10 mHz. At synchronous orbit, corresponding spectral bands are seen in the frequency-time spectra of the azimuthal component which generally show a clear harmonic structure when the satellite is located at the off-magnetic equator. The result strongly suggests that the 20-80 mHz band is the higher harmonics of standing shear Alfven waves and the 3-10 mHz band is the fundamental mode. Switching of activity between both bands is frequently observed on magnetically quiet days, indicating that the Pc 3 and Pc 4/5 bands are excited by different external driving sources.
