Laboratory Demonstrations of High-contrast Imaging for Space Coronagraphy

This slide presentation reviews the use of the High Contrast Imaging Testbed (HCIT) in the design and improvement of space coronagraphs. The objectives of the work are to: (1) Advance the technology readiness of space coronagraph hardware, techniques, algorithms, and predictive models; (2) Provide proof-of-concept demonstrations of coronagraph techniques; and (3) Support collaborations across the exoplanet community in pursuit of the optimal space coronagraph architecture.

Variable stars in the Leo A dwarf galaxy (DDO 69)

Observations of the Leo A dwarf galaxy, obtained over the period from 1980 to 1991 are reported. Forty two separate Charge Coupled Devices (CCD) frames were searched for variable stars. A total of 14 suspected variables were found, 9 had sufficient coverage for period determination, and 5 had Cepheid light curves. Four of these stars fit well on a P-L relation and yield a distance modulus, after correction for Galactic foreground extinction, of m-M = 26.74. This corresponds to a distance of 2.2 Mpc, placing Leo A near the Local Group zero-velocity surface.

Accurate positions and finding charts for 528 high-redshift, luminous quasars

Finding charts and J2000 positions accurate to about 1 arcsec are presented for the 528 high-redshift (z is greater than 1), luminous (MV is less than -25.5) quasars investigated in the HST Snapshot Survey. A histogram showing the distribution of the differences between the positions determined by the Space Telescope Science Institute Astrometric Support Program and the catalog positions is provided.
