Decoherence Noise on the Superconducting Qubits Training Program

Quantum computing is a growing field with promising applications in a variety of fields such as healthcare, energy consumption, and cryptography. Quantum computing leverages the principles of quantum mechanics - superposition and entanglement. Yet, in the Noisy Intermediate Scale Quantum (NISQ) Era - quantum systems face the major challenge of decoherence due to noise. This era is characterized by low amounts of qubits and high gate error. Decoherence leads to the loss of the quantum information stored in the qubit. Noise occurs with any quantum system that is exposed to the environment. It should also be noted that quantum information can be stored in the cavity - Fermilab specializes in coupling transmons to ultrahigh-Q SRF cavities. The Superconducting Qubits Training Program (SQTP) provides a visualization for beginners in quantum computing. The open quantum system simulated is a superconducting qubit (two-level atom) coupled to a microwave cavity whose excitations are photons. The Rotating Wave Approximation of the Jaynes-Cumming Hamiltonian is used. SQTP utilizes open-source Python-based libraries scQubits, NumPy, and QuTiP alongside the Master Lindblad equation. In this project, we study the different decay behaviors of qubits and cavities with collapse operators.

Investigating parameter trainability in the SNAP-Displacement protocol of a qudit system.

Our main focus is to investigate the sensitivity of training any of the SNAP parameters in the SNAP-Displacement protocol. We analyze conditions that could potentially lead to the Barren Plateau problem in a qudit system and draw comparisons with multi-qubit systems. The parameterized ansatz we consider consists of SNAP -Displacement blocks. We utilize techniques similar to those in [8] and [2] along with the concept of $t-$design. Through this analysis, we make the following key observations: (a) The trainability of a SNAP-parameter does not exhibit a preference for any particular direction within our cost function landscape, (b) using Haar measure properties, we establish new lemmas concerning the expectation of certain polynomial functions, and (c) utilizing these new lemmas, we identify a general condition that indicates an expected trainability advantage in a qudit system when compared to multi-qubit systems.

Optimising HEP Simulations on 3D Architecture: Primitive Gates for BT

In this report, the first attempt for an alternative approach for the simulation of the non-abelian group BT has been done. First, we analysed why SNAP and Displacement decomposition is not feasible for this problem with the current technology, and then we explored a new approach for the optimisation of the pulses. In particular, we studied how the expansion of the pulses in Chebyshev Polynomials could affect the optimisation process. Even if the study is not conclusive, we believe that it might be worth continuing to study this approach in the future, in order to be able to efficiently implement quantum circuits on computers.
