Evidence of h b ( 2 P ) → ϒ ( 1 S ) η Decay and Search for h b ( 1 P , 2 P ) → ϒ ( 1 S ) π 0 with the Belle Detector

We report the first evidence for the h b ( 2 P ) → ϒ ( 1 S ) η transition with a significance of 3.5 standard deviations. The decay branching fraction is measured to be B [ h b ( 2 P ) → ϒ ( 1 S ) η ] = ( 7.1 − 3.2 + 3.7 ± 0.8 ) × 10 − 3 , which is noticeably smaller than expected. We also set upper limits on π 0 transitions of B [ h b ( 2 P ) → ϒ ( 1 S ) π 0 ] < 1.8 × 10 − 3 , and B [ h b ( 1 P ) → ϒ ( 1 S ) π 0 ] < 1.8 × 10 − 3 , at the 90% confidence level. These results are obtained with a 131.4 fb − 1 data sample collected near the ϒ ( 5 S ) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e − collider. Angular analysis of B → K * e + e − in the low- q 2 region with new electron identification at Belle

We perform an angular analysis of the B → K * e + e − decay for the dielectron mass squared, q 2 , range of 0.0008 – 1.1200 GeV 2 / c 4 using the full Belle dataset in the K * 0 → K + π − and K * + → K S 0 π + channels, incorporating new methods of electron identification to improve the statistical power of the dataset. This analysis is sensitive to contributions from right-handed currents from physics beyond the Standard Model by constraining the Wilson coefficients C 7 ( ′ ) . We perform a fit to the B → K * e + e − differential decay rate and measure the imaginary component of the transversality amplitude to be A T Im = − 1.27 ± 0.52 ± 0.12 , and the K * transverse asymmetry to be A T ( 2 ) = 0.52 ± 0.53 ± 0.11 , with F L and A T Re fixed to the Standard Model values. The resulting constraints on the value of C 7 ′ are consistent with the Standard Model within a 2 σ confidence interval. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Measurement of Angular Coefficients of B ¯ → D * ℓ ν ¯ ℓ : Implications for | V c b | and Tests of Lepton Flavor Universality

We measure the complete set of angular coefficients J i for exclusive B ¯ → D * ℓ ν ¯ ℓ decays ( ℓ = e , μ ). Our analysis uses the full 711 fb − 1 Belle dataset with hadronic tag-side reconstruction. The results allow us to extract the form factors describing the B ¯ → D * transition and the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element | V cb | . Using recent lattice QCD calculations for the hadronic form factors, we find | V cb | = ( 40.7 ± 0.7 ) × 10 − 3 using the Boyd-Grinstein-Lebed parametrization, compatible with determinations from inclusive semileptonic decays. We search for lepton flavor universality violation as a function of the hadronic recoil parameter w and investigate the differences of the electron and muon angular distributions. We find no deviation from standard model expectations. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Search for charmed baryons in the Λ c + η system and measurement of the branching fractions of Λ c ( 2880 ) + and Λ c ( 2940 ) + decaying to Λ c + η and p D 0 relative to Σ c ( 2455 ) π

We search for excited charmed baryons in the Λ c + η system using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 980 fb − 1 . The data were collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB e + e − asymmetric-energy collider. No significant signals are found in the Λ c + η mass spectrum, including the known Λ c ( 2880 ) + and Λ c ( 2940 ) + . Clear Λ c ( 2880 ) + and Λ c ( 2940 ) + signals are observed in the p D 0 mass spectrum. We set upper limits at 90% credibility level on ratios of branching fractions of Λ c ( 2880 ) + and Λ c ( 2940 ) + decaying to Λ c + η relative to Σ c ( 2455 ) π of < 0.13 for the Λ c ( 2880 ) + and < 1.11 for the Λ c ( 2940 ) + . We measure ratios of branching fractions of Λ c ( 2880 ) + and Λ c ( 2940 ) + decaying to p D 0 relative to Σ c ( 2455 ) π of 0.75 ± 0.03 ( stat ) ± 0.07 ( syst ) for the Λ c ( 2880 ) + and 3.59 ± 0.21 ( stat ) ± 0.56 ( syst ) for the Λ c ( 2940 ) + . Measurements of the Branching Fraction, Polarization, and C P Asymmetry for the Decay B 0 → ω ω

We present a comprehensive study of B 0 → ω ω decays using 772 × 10 6 B B ¯ pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e + e − collider. This process is a suppressed charmless decay into two vector mesons and can exhibit interesting polarization and C P violation. The decay is observed for the first time with a significance of 7.9 standard deviations. We measure a branching fraction B = ( 1.53 ± 0.29 ± 0.17 ) × 10 − 6 , a fraction of longitudinal polarization f L = 0.87 ± 0.13 ± 0.13 , and a time-integrated C P asymmetry A C P = − 0.44 ± 0.43 ± 0.11 , where the first uncertainties listed are statistical and the second are systematic. This is the first observation of B 0 → ω ω and the first measurements of f L and A C P for this decay. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Search for Baryon-Number-Violating Processes in B − Decays to the Ξ ¯ c 0 Λ ¯ c − Final State

We report the results of the first search for B − decays to the Ξ ¯ c 0 Λ ¯ c − final state using 711 fb − 1 of data collected at the ϒ ( 4 S ) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e − collider. The results are interpreted in terms of both direct baryon-number-violating B − decay and Ξ c 0 − Ξ ¯ c 0 oscillations which follow the standard model decay B − → Ξ c 0 Λ ¯ c − . We observe no evidence for baryon number violation and set the 95% confidence-level upper limits on the ratio of baryon-number-violating and standard model branching fractions B ( B − → Ξ ¯ c 0 Λ ¯ c − ) / B ( B − → Ξ c 0 Λ ¯ c − ) to be < 2.7 % and on the effective angular frequency of mixing ω in Ξ c 0 − Ξ ¯ c 0 oscillations to be < 0.76 ps − 1 (equivalent to τ mix > 1.3 ps ). Search for a heavy neutral lepton that mixes predominantly with the tau neutrino

We report a search for a heavy neutral lepton (HNL) that mixes predominantly with ν τ . The search utilizes data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e + e − collider. The data sample was collected at and just below the center-of-mass energies of the ϒ ( 4 S ) and ϒ ( 5 S ) resonances and has an integrated luminosity of 915 fb − 1 , corresponding to ( 836 ± 12 ) × 10 6 e + e − → τ + τ − events. We search for production of the HNL (denoted N ) in the decay τ − → π − N followed by its decay via N → μ + μ − ν τ . The search focuses on the parameter-space region in which the HNL is long-lived, so that the μ + μ − originate from a common vertex that is significantly displaced from the collision point of the KEKB beams. Consistent with the expected background yield, one event is observed in the data sample after application of all the event-selection criteria. We report limits on the mixing parameter of the HNL with the τ neutrino as a function of the HNL mass. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Search for the semileptonic decays Ξ c 0 → Ξ 0 ℓ + ℓ − at Belle

Using the full data sample of 980 fb − 1 collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy electron-positron collider, we report the results of the first search for the rare semileptonic decays Ξ c 0 → Ξ 0 ℓ + ℓ − ( ℓ = e or μ ). No significant signals are observed in the Ξ 0 ℓ + ℓ − invariant-mass distributions. Taking the decay Ξ c 0 → Ξ − π + as the normalization mode, we report 90% credibility upper limits on the branching fraction ratios B ( Ξ c 0 → Ξ 0 e + e − ) / B ( Ξ c 0 → Ξ − π + ) < 6.7 × 10 − 3 and B ( Ξ c 0 → Ξ 0 μ + μ − ) / B ( Ξ c 0 → Ξ − π + ) < 4.3 × 10 − 3 based on the phase-space assumption for signal decays. The 90% credibility upper limits on the absolute branching fractions of B ( Ξ c 0 → Ξ 0 e + e − ) and B ( Ξ c 0 → Ξ 0 μ + μ − ) are found to be 9.9 × 10 − 5 and 6.5 × 10 − 5 , respectively. Search for a dark leptophilic scalar produced in association with τ + τ − pair in e + e − annihilation at center-of-mass energies near 10.58 GeV

A dark leptophilic scalar ( ϕ L ) is a hypothetical particle that couples only to leptons rather than quarks. We report on a search for ϕ L in the e + e − → τ + τ − ϕ L , ϕ L → ℓ + ℓ − ( ℓ = e , μ ) process using 626 fb − 1 of data collected by the Belle experiment near the ϒ ( 4 S ) resonance. We validate the backgrounds with multiple control regions in data, using a novel multiclass multivariate event classifier. In absence of a signal, we quote upper limits at the 90% confidence level on the coupling between ϕ L and leptons. Our bounds, obtained in a blinded approach, are 19% more constraining than the previous limits, averaged over the mass range 0.04 ≤ m ϕ L ≤ 6.5 GeV . We exclude the parameter space below 4 GeV favored by measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Measurement of the e + e - → $ {B}_s^0{\overline{B}}_s^0X $ cross section in the energy range from 10.63 to 11.02 GeV using inclusive $ {D}_s^{+} $ and D 0 production

We measure the fraction of ${B}_s^0$ events at Υ(10860) to be f s = (${22.0}_{-2.1}^{+2.0}$)%. We determine also the ratio of the ${B}_s^0$ inclusive branching fractions $\mathcal{B}$(${B}_s^0$ → D 0 / $\overline{D}^0$X)/$\mathcal{B}$(${B}_s^0$ → ${D}_s^{\pm }$X) = 0.416 ± 0.018 ± 0.092. Observation of a threshold cusp at the Λ η threshold in the pK - mass spectrum with Λ$^{+}_{c}$ → pK - π + decays

We observe a narrow peaking structure in the pK - invariant-mass spectrum near the Λη threshold. The peak is clearly seen in 1.5 million events of Λ$^{+}_{c}$ → pK - π + decay using the 980 fb -1 data sample collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e - collider. We try two approaches to explain this structure: as a new resonance and as a cusp at the Λη threshold. The best fit is obtained with a coherent sum of a Flatte function and a constant background amplitude with the reduced X 2 of 257/243 (p = 0.25), while the fits to Breit-Wigner functions are unfavored by more than 7σ. The best fit explains the structure as a cusp at the Λη threshold, and the obtained parameters are consistent with the known properties of Λ(1670). The observation gives the first identification of a threshold cusp in hadrons from the spectrum shape.

Study of the muon decay-in-flight in the τ - → μ - ν ¯ μ ν τ decay to measure the Michel parameter ξ '

We present the first measurement of the Michel parameter ξ' in the $\tau$ - → μ¯ $\overline{v}$ μ v $\tau$ decay using the full data sample of 988 fb -1 collected by the Belle detector operating at the KEKB asymmetric energy e + ⁢e - collider. The method is based on the reconstruction of the μ¯ → e⁢¯$\overline{v}$ e v μ decay-in-flight in the Belle central drift chamber and relies on the correlation between muon spin and its daughter electron momentum. We study the main sources of the background that can imitate the signal decay, such as kaon and pion decays-in-flight and charged particle scattering on the detector material. Highly efficient methods of their suppression are developed and applied to select 165 signal-candidate events. We obtain ξ' = 0.22±0.94±0.42 where the first uncertainty is statistical, and the second one is systematic. The result is in agreement with the Standard Model prediction of ξ' = 1.

First measurement of the Q 2 distribution of X⁡(3915) single-tag two-photon production

We report the first measurement of the Q 2 distribution of X⁡(3915) produced by single-tag two-photon interactions. The decay mode used is X⁡(3915) →J/Ψ⁢ω. The covered Q 2 region is from 1.5 (GeV/c) 2 to 10.0 (GeV/c) 2 . We observe 7.9 ± 3.1⁢(stat) ± 1.5⁢(syst) events, where we expect 4.1 ± 0.7 events based on the Q 2 = 0 result from the no-tag two-photon process, extrapolated to higher Q 2 region using the $c\bar{c}$ model of Schuler, Berends, and van Gulik. The shape of the distribution is also consistent with this model; we note that statistical uncertainties are large

First Measurement of the Michel Parameter ξ ' in the τ - → μ - ν ¯ μ ν τ Decay at Belle

We report the first measurement of the Michel parameter ξ' in the $\tau$ - →μ - ⁢ $\overline{v}$ μ ⁢v $\tau$ decay with a new method proposed just recently. The measurement is based on the reconstruction of the $\tau$ - →μ -⁢ $\overline{v}$ μ v $\tau$ events with subsequent muon decay in flight in the Belle central drift chamber. The analyzed data sample of 988 fb -1 collected by the Belle detector corresponds to approximately 912×10 6 $\tau$ + ⁢$\tau$ - pairs. We measure ξ'=0.22±0.94⁢(stat)±0.42⁢(syst), which is in agreement with the standard model prediction of ξ' =1. Statistical uncertainty dominates in this study, being a limiting factor, while systematic uncertainty is well under control. Our analysis proved the practicability of this promising method and its prospects for further precise measurement in future experiments.
