Core-excited states in 105 Cd

105 Cd was produced in the 96 Mo+ 12 C fusion/evaporation reaction, performed at NIPNE, Bucharest-Magurele, Romania. Various excited states of positive- and negative-parities were populated. Picosecond half-lives were measured by using the Differential Decay Curve Method (DDCM) method, allowing to control the side feeding of the states of interest. Further, new data were obtained for the half-lives of the 11/2 + , 15/2 - and 19/2 -105 Cd states. Reduced electric quadrupole transition strengths were calculated and compared to the neighboring odd-A and even-A cadmium nuclei. The particle-core weak coupling approach was used to interpret excited states of 105 Cd in the light of the new data.

Structure of the high-spin, đť›˝-decaying state in the neutron-rich nucleus 146 La

Excited structures in 146 Ce were populated in đť›˝ decay of the high-spin state in the neutron-rich nucleus 146 La. The beam was produced by the Californium Rare Isotope Breeder Upgrade (CARIBU) facility at Argonne National Laboratory, reaccelerated by the ATLAS accelerator, and implanted on a moving-tape system in the middle of the GAMMASPHERE array. The decay scheme of the high-spin, đť›˝-decaying state in 146 La was revised with respect to previous studies and evaluated nuclear data. Here, the structure of 146 La is discussed in the framework of the deformed Nilsson model and systematics of known quasiparticle structures in the region.

Structure of the high-spin, β-decaying state in the neutron-rich nucleus 146 La

Excited structures in 146 Ce were populated in β decay of the high-spin state in the neutronrich nucleus 146 La. The beam was produced by the Californium Rare Isotope Breeder Upgrade (CARIBU) facility at Argonne National Laboratory, re-accelerated by the ATLAS accelerator and implanted on a moving-tape system in the middle of the GAMMASPHERE array. The decay scheme of the high-spin, β-decaying state in 146 La was revised with respect to previous studies and evaluated nuclear data. The structure of 146 La is discussed in the framework of the deformed Nilsson model and systematics of known quasiparticle structures in the region.

Shape evolution in even-mass 98-104 Zr isotopes via lifetime measurements using the $\gamma \gamma $-coincidence technique

The Zirconium (Z = 40) isotopic chain has attracted interest for more than four decades. The abrupt lowering of the energy of the first 2 + state and the increase in the transition strength B(E2; 2$^+_1$ →0$^+_1$) going from 98 Zr to 100 Zr has been the first example of “quantum phase transition” in nuclear shapes, which has few equivalents in the nuclear chart. Although a multitude of experiments have been performed to measure nuclear properties related to nuclear shapes and collectivity in the region, none of the measured lifetimes were obtained using the Recoil Distance Doppler Shift method in the γγ-coincidence mode where a gate on the direct feeding transition of the state of interest allows a strict control of systematical errors. Here this work reports the results of lifetime measurements for the first yrast excited states in 98-104 Zr carried out to extract reduced transition probabilities. The new lifetime values in γγ-coincidence and γ-single mode are compared with the results of former experiments. Recent predictions of the Interacting Boson Model with Configuration Mixing, the Symmetry Conserving Configuration Mixing model based on the Hartree–Fock–Bogoliubov approach and the Monte Carlo Shell Model are presented and compared with the experimental data.

Evolution of the j - 1 anomalous states of the j - 3 multiplets

We report in the nuclear shell model the j -1 anomaly is associated with unusual ordering of the j and j -1 states of a j -3 split multiplet. In the mass regions placed away from the doubly magic nuclei, the j-1 levels are found to be below the respective j states. The anomalous ordering of the levels is most prominent in the silver isotopic chain, but a similar effect is observed also in other systems with pure three-hole configurations. The correlation between the Δ E = E j-1 - E j energy splitting, observed in some odd-mass nuclei, and the even-even core's 2 + level energy is well pronounced in the (28,50) neutron and proton shells and to a lesser extent in the lower and higher (20,28) and (50, 82)

Structure of the low-lying states in 99,101,103,105 Pd

In this work, the odd-mass 99-105 Pd nuclei were studied via 90-96 Zr( 12,13 C, xnÎł) fusion/evaporation reactions. The beam was provided by the IFIN-HH Tandem accelerator at energies of approximately 50 MeV. Emitted gamma rays were detected by the hybrid multidetector system RoSphere. The structure of the low-lying excited states in 99-105 Pd and their gamma-decay pattern are discussed in the framework of the rigid triaxial rotor plus particle model, providing a reasonable description of the low-lying level energies, electromagnetic transition rates, and magnetic moments.

Observation of new neutron-rich isotopes in the vicinity of Zr 110

Neutron-rich radioactive isotope (RI) beams in the vicinity of 110 Zr were produced using the in-flight fission of a 345-MeV/nucleon 238 U beam at the RIKEN Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory. Here, the RI beams were separated in flight by the large-acceptance two-stage fragment separator BigRIPS. Isotopes were clearly identified in a low-background particle-identification plot, which was obtained from the measurements of time of flight, magnetic rigidity, and energy loss using beam-line detectors placed in the BigRIPS separator and the ZeroDegree spectrometer. Nine new isotopes, 101 Br, 102 Kr, 105,106 Rb, 108 Sr, 110,111 Y, 114 Zr, and 117 Nb, are reported for the first time, with their measured production cross sections compared with the extrapolations of lighter isotopes down to the femtobarn regime.

Isomeric and beta-decay spectroscopy of 173,174 Ho

β-decay spectroscopy of 173,174 Ho (Z = 67, N = 106,107) was conducted at Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory at RIKEN by using in-flight fission of a 345-MeV/u 238 U primary beam. A previously unreported isomeric state at 405 keV with half-life of 3.7(12) μs and a spin and parity of (3/2 + ) is identified in 173 Ho. Moreover, a new state with a spin and parity of 9 - was discovered in 174 Er. The experimental log ft values of 5.84(20) and 5.25(18) suggest an allowed-hindered β decay from the ground state of 174 Ho to the K π = 8 - isomeric state in 174 Er. Configuration-constrained potential energy surface (PES) calculations were performed and the predictions are in reasonable agreement with the experimental results.

Shape evolution of neutron-rich 106,108,110 Mo isotopes in the triaxial degree of freedom

Background: Neutron-rich nuclei with mass number between 100 and 110 attract much attention, since several kinds of shapes, such as spherical, prolate, oblate, and triaxial shapes, are predicted. In particular, for neutron-rich Mo isotopes, different models predict different magnitudes and rigidity of triaxial deformation. Previous interpretations of experimental results based solely on low-lying $2^+_2$ states are insufficient to distinguish between the rigid triaxial shape, $\gamma$ vibration, or $\gamma$-soft rotor. Purpose: The shape evolution of 106 Mo, 108 Mo, and 110 Mo is investigated through their $2^+_1$-state lifetimes, decay-branching ratios of the $2^+_2$ state, and energies of the low-lying collective excited states with $K^Ď€ = 0^+, 2^+$, and $4^+$. Method: $\beta$-delayed $\gamma$-ray spectroscopy was employed for neutron-rich Nb and Zr isotopes produced at the RIKEN RI Beam Factory to populate excited states in 106 Mo, 108 Mo, and 110 Mo. The EUroball-RIKEN Cluster Array was used for high-resolution $\gamma$-ray detection and lifetimes of the $2^+_1$ states were determined using the UK fast-timing array of LaBr 3 (Ce) detectors. Results: New $\gamma$-ray transitions and levels are reported, including newly assigned $0^+_2$ states in 108,110 Mo. Quadrupole deformations were obtained for 106,108,110 Mo from their $2^+_1$ energies and lifetimes. The $\beta$-delayed neutron-emission probabilities of 108 Nb and 110 Nb were determined by examining the $\gamma$ rays of their respective daughter decays. Conclusions: In this work, the even-odd energy staggering in the $2^+_2$ band was compared with typical patterns of the $\gamma$-vibrational band, rigid triaxial rotor, and $\gamma$-soft rotor. The very small even-odd staggering of 106 Mo, 108 Mo, and 110 Mo favors a $\gamma$-vibrational band assignment. The kinematic moment of inertia for the $2^+_2$ band showed a trend similar to the ground-state band, which is as expected for the $\gamma$-vibrational band. Beyond-mean-field calculations employing the constrained Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov and local quasiparticle-random-phase approximation method using the SLy5 + T interaction reproduced the ground and $2^+_2$ bands in 106 Mo and 108 Mo. The collective wave functions are consistent with the interpretation of the $2^+_2$ band as the $\gamma$-vibrational band of the prolate shape. However, the staggering pattern observed in 110 Mo differs from the one suggested in the calculations which predict a $\gamma$-soft rotor. There was no experimental indication of the oblate shape or the $\gamma$-soft rotor predicted in these Mo isotopes.
