Scanning seismic intrusion detection method and apparatus

An intrusion monitoring system includes an array of seismic sensors, such as geophones, arranged along a perimeter to be monitored for unauthorized intrusion as by surface movement or tunneling. Two wires lead from each sensor to a central monitoring station. The central monitoring station has three modes of operation. In a first mode of operation, the output of all of the seismic sensors is summed into a receiver for amplification and detection. When the amplitude of the summed signals exceeds a certain predetermined threshold value an alarm is sounded. In a second mode of operation, the individual output signals from the sensors are multiplexed into the receiver for sequentially interrogating each of the sensors.

Scanning Seismic Intrusion Detector

Scanning seismic intrusion detector employs array of automatically or manually scanned sensors to determine approximate location of intruder. Automatic-scanning feature enables one operator to tend system of many sensors. Typical sensors used with new system are moving-coil seismic pickups. Detector finds uses in industrial security systems.

Cable-splice detector

Detector has possible uses in aerial cable-car systems, equipment handling in mines, boreholes, and undersea operations, and other applications where moving steel cable must be measured, monitored, or controlled. Detector consists of Hall-effect magnetic sensor located close to cable. Magnetic markings on cable are converted to electrical signals. Signals are filtered, amplified, and can actuate alarm.

Biomedical ultrasonoscope

The combination of a "C" mode scan electronics in a portable, battery powered biomedical ultrasonoscope having "A" and "M" mode scan electronics, the latter including a clock generator for generating clock pulses, a cathode ray tube having X, Y and Z axis inputs, a sweep generator connected between the clock generator and the X axis input of the cathode ray tube for generating a cathode ray sweep signal synchronized by the clock pulses, and a receiver adapted to be connected to the Z axis input of the cathode ray tube. The "C" mode scan electronics comprises a plurality of transducer elements arranged in a row and adapted to be positioned on the skin of the patient's body for converting a pulsed electrical signal to a pulsed ultrasonic signal, radiating the ultrasonic signal into the patient's body, picking up the echoes reflected from interfaces in the patient's body and converting the echoes to electrical signals; a plurality of transmitters, each transmitter being coupled to a respective transducer for transmitting a pulsed electrical signal thereto and for transmitting the converted electrical echo signals directly to the receiver, a sequencer connected between the clock generator and the plurality of transmitters and responsive to the clock pulses for firing the transmitters in cyclic order; and a staircase voltage generator connected between the clock generator and the Y axis input of the cathode ray tube for generating a staircase voltage having steps synchronized by the clock pulses.

Biomedical ultrasonoscope

Portable, battery-powered device permits noninvasive examination of body's interior and is particularly well suited to real-time examination of heart. Instrument is capable of C-mode, A-mode, and M-mode scan display.

Biomedical ultrasonoscope

An instrument with a single ultrasonic transducer probe and a linear array of transducer probes permitting three operator modes is described. An 'A' and an 'M' mode scanner were combined with a 'C' mode scanner and a single receiver is used. The 'C' scanner mode enables two-dimensional cross sections of the viewed organ. Video-produced markers enable measurement of the dimensions of the heart. COS/MOS integrated logic circuit components are used to minimize power consumption and permit battery operation.

Reference apparatus for medical ultrasonic transducer

Once reference apparatus has been located properly, and its position on chest of patient has been recorded on skin by means of indelible fiducial marks, it is simple matter at later time to reposition probe on chest over heart. In this way, signals from exact same area of heart can be re-examined.

Bio-isolated DC operational amplifier

Possibility of shocks from leakage currents can be reduced by use of isolated preamplifiers. Amplifier consists of battery-powered operational amplifier coupled by means of light-emitting diodes to another amplifier which may be grounded and operated from ac power mains or separate battery supply.

Bio-isolated dc operational amplifier

A bio-isolated dc operational amplifier is described for use in making bioelectrical measurements of a patient while providing isolation of the patient from electrical shocks. The circuit contains a first operational amplifier coupled to the patient with its output coupled in a forward loop through a first optic coupler to a second operational amplifier. The output of the second operational amplifier is coupled to suitable monitoring circuitry via a feedback circuit including a second optic coupler to the input of the first operational amplifier.

Ultrasonic biomedical measuring and recording apparatus

A train of ultrasonic pulses is beamed into the body of an animal. Organs intercepted by the beam reflect echo pulses following each transmitted pulse. An electronic gate with a variable width and a variable time delay relative to the transmitted pulse is utilized for selecting echoes derived from other organs or portions of organs. The integral of the echo signals received within the first half of the gate period is subtracted from a corresponding integral of the echo signal received during the second half of the gate to derive an error signal for controlling the time delay of the gate. In this manner, the selected echo signal is always maintained in the center of the gate.

Intruder detection system

An intruder detection system is described. The system contains a transmitter which sends a frequency modulated and amplitude modulated signal to a remote receiver in response to a geophone detector which responds to seismic impulses created by the intruder. The signal makes it possible for an operator to determine the number of intruders and the manner of movement.

Metal detector system

Signal voltage resulting from the disturbance of an electromagnetic field within the volume of a sensitive area is compared with a reference ac voltage for polarity information, which identifies the material. System output amplitude and polarity indicate approximate size and type of metal, respectively.

Intruder detection system

Moving coil geophones are utilized to develop a small, rugged, battery operated system capable of detecting seismic disturbances caused by intruders. Seismic disturbances sensed by each geophone are converted into electrical signals, amplified, and transmitted to remote receiver which provides listener with aural signal.
