Luminescent hybrid halides with various centering metal cations (Zn, Cd and Pb) and diverse structures

Organic–inorganic hybrid metal halides have been extensively studied because of their great potential in optoelectronics. Herein, we report three hybrid metal halides (Bmpip) 2 ZnBr 4 , (Bmpip) 2 CdBr 4 , and (Bmpip) 8 Pb 11 Br 30 (where Bmpip + is 1-butyl-1-methyl-piperidinium, C 10 H 22 N + ). (Bmpip) 2 ZnBr 4 and (Bmpip) 2 CdBr 4 crystallize in the P2 1 /c space group with zero-dimensional crystal structures with [MBr 4 ] 2− (M = Zn, Cd) tetrahedra isolated by Bmpip + . (Bmpip) 8 Pb 11 Br 30 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P$\overline{1}$ with combining macron] with one-dimensional corrugated chains constructed from face-sharing [PbBr 6 ] 4− octahedra. Furthermore, all of the compounds exhibit excellent ambient and thermal stability. Under UV excitation, all three compounds exhibit very broad emissions. Temperature-dependent photoluminescence measurements indicate that the broad emissions of (Bmpip) 2 ZnBr 4 and (Bmpip) 2 CdBr 4 can be attributed to both the organic cations and self-trapped excitons (STEs) and that the emission of (Bmpip) 8 Pb 11 Br 30 is assigned to STEs. Density functional theory calculations reveal that the three compounds adopt a direct band gap. This work enriches our understanding of the structure types of hybrid metal halides while revealing their diverse emission mechanisms.

High radiation tolerance of an ultrastrong nanostructured NiCoCr alloy with stable dispersed nanooxides and fine grain structure

The present paper reports the irradiation behavior of nanostructured NiCoCr medium entropy alloy enhanced by Y-Hf-O nanooxides and fine grains produced by powder metallurgy. Ion beam irradiation to a peak dose of 130 dpa at 580°C produced neither detectable void swelling nor irradiation-induced hardening, in contrast to significant void swelling and property degradation of single phase NiCoCr concentrated solid-solution alloy under the similar irradiation condition. The dispersed nanooxides and high density of grain boundaries act as defect sinks that effectively annihilate irradiation-induced interstitials and vacancies. Furthermore, high-density nanooxides maintain their crystalline structures and stabilize the grain boundaries during irradiation.

Property enhancement of CoCrNi medium-entropy alloy by introducing nano-scale features

CoCrNi -medium-entropy alloy (MEA) has been widely investigated due to its superior mechanical properties that overcome strength-ductility tradeoff. Here we show further property enhancement of CoCrNi MEA by introducing nano-scale features. Both CoCrNi and oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) CoCrNi are fabricated by mechanical alloying and spark plasma sintering. Microstructural characterization and mechanical testing of these nanostructured MEAs revealed that the nano-scale features significantly improves the strength of the alloys. In ODS-CoCrNi MEA, Y 2 Ti 2 O 7 oxides with an average diameter of 7.3 ± 3.2 nm are incoherent with the matrix, and a specific orientation relationship exists between Y 2 Ti 2 O 7 and the matrix, which is [011] Y 2 Ti 2 O 7 //[011]Matrix, (400) Y 2 Ti 2 O 7 //(200)Matrix and ($22\bar2$) Y 2 Ti 2 O 7 //($11\bar1$)Matrix. The recrystallization and grain growth processes are effectively suppressed by the introduction of Y 2 Ti 2 O 7 nanoparticles. Strengthening mechanism analyses indicate that the strength improvement of ODS-CoCrNi is mainly ascribed to the precipitation strengthening of Y 2 Ti 2 O 7 .

Investigation of interlayer adhesion of 3D printable cementitious material from the aspect of printing process

The safety of structure printed by extrusion-based 3D concrete printing (3DCP) is significantly influenced by interlayer bonding, which is governed by fresh material properties and processes, including mixing, printing, and post-processing phases. Much literature focused on improving interlayer bond strength via material tailoring/bonding agent addition but gave insufficient attention to other phases' impacts. This study investigates the effects of parameters on interlayer bond strength from different phases in 3DCP, including superplasticizer dosage, printing speed, and curing condition. In the mixing phase, the superplasticizer dosage was increased to reduce I{sub thix} and increase surface moisture content (SMC), consequently improving interface microstructure and interlayer bond strength. In the printing phase, similar results were observed by increasing pumping speed to increase material shear rate. In the post-processing phase, proper curing also improved interlayer bond strength. While SMC has a critical impact on interlayer bond strength, material thixotropic index (I{sub thix}) probably has a stronger influence.
