Evaluating Property Model Accuracy for Cost Optimization of Desalination Technologies

Conference presentation conveying work conducted on property modeling and implications on cost optimization of seawater desalination technology. The authors assess the accuracy of four different property modeling approaches to represent thermodynamic properties of seawater. These properties are used with process flowsheets that include either reverse osmosis or mechanical vapor compression. The accuracy of property estimation is related to deviations in process design and levelized cost.

A Framework for the Optimization of Water Treatment Processes Under Uncertainty Assessed through Process Operability

Conference presentation conveying work conducted on developing a framework for the optimization of water treatment processes after applying robust optimization and process operability tools. The objective of this framework is to optimize treatment processes under the uncertainty of source water conditions. This work contributes to robust optimization and process operability methodologies, allowing for the extension of probability from statistical models to operability calculations.

Online System ID for Predicting Power Plant Performance Throughout Cycling Operations

This presentation represents a review of the background research conducted by NETL to apply artificial intelligence, i.e. auto-recursive algorithms and data analytics to detect leaks in utility scale boilers and laboratory power systems. The new project being funded by the Advanced Sensors and Controls Program is part of the Field Work Proposal funded in EY21 as Task 53 to demonstrate the application of these techniques on a utility scale power system.
