Method for manufacturing a fibre reflection interferometer based on a metal-dielectric diffraction structure

A new method for manufacturing a two-mirror reflection fibre interferometer in a single-mode fibre consisting of an input mirror with an asymmetric reflection coefficients and a highly reflective end mirror is presented and experimentally demonstrated. The input mirror is based on a metal-dielectric diffraction structure in the form of an aperture in an aluminium film and a dielectric multilayer coating, which provides asymmetry of the reflection coefficient. The method includes the calculation of the energy coefficients of the aluminium film with a hole, the determination of the optimal diameter of the hole, as well as making of the hole, the entrance mirror and the resonator with a short fibre base. A sample interferometer is demonstrated that has an increased (at least by two orders of magnitude) radiation resistance compared to variants based on a continuous metal film, namely, at least 100 mW of radiation in a single-mode SMF-28e fibre at a wavelength of 1550 nm. Narrowband Raman fibre laser based on a dual-core optical fibre with FBGs inscribed by femtosecond radiation

The characteristics of Raman lasers based on a dual-core optical fibre are presented. Fibre Bragg gratings (FBGs), selectively inscribed in chosen cores by femtosecond radiation, are used as cavity mirrors. The laser configuration is optimised with respect to the output FBG reflectivity. The possibility of additional spectral filtering, based on the formation of a Michelson interferometer in the laser cavity by inscribing a pair of FBGs in different cores, is demonstrated. (paper)

Fibre loop mirror with FBGs for the scanning range stabilisation in a fibre self-sweeping laser

A new scheme is suggested for stabilising scanning range boundaries of a self-sweeping fibre laser with fibre Bragg gratings (FBGs) and a fibre loop mirror. The mechanism for stabilising stop and/or start scanning boundaries is based on the formation of additional selective losses and/or reflection depending on the FBG position relative to the fibre mirror. It is shown that the simultaneous implementation of two selectors reduces fluctuations of the self-sweeping boundaries to several picometres, which is less by one-two orders in magnitude as compared with a case when the FBGs are absent. The approach suggested allows one to enhance predictability of emission wavelength tuning in fibre self-sweeping lasers, which is very important in practical applications. (paper)

FBG array-based random distributed feedback Raman fibre laser

We have demonstrated the possibility of making a Raman laser with a random distributed feedback ensured by an array of 57 fibre Bragg gratings with random phases and amplitudes inscribed in a 13-m-long polarisation-maintaining passive fibre. The linearly polarised cw output power at a wavelength of 1092.3 nm reaches 5.7 W. The laser linewidth at the highest output power is about 80 pm. In the nearthreshold regime, we observe single-frequency lasing with a linewidth under 100 kHz as determined by self-heterodyne measurements. (paper)
