Radio frequency interference effects of continuous wave signals on telemetry data, part 2

The results of radio frequency interference tests and the derived telemetry bit SNR degradation model, which includes the telemetry data rate and the telemetry data power as independent variables for characterizing the continuous wave interference effects on telemetry data, are presented. The telemetry bit SNR degradation model was implemented in the second version of the Deep Space Interference Prediction software.

Radio-frequency interference effects of continuous sinewave signals on telemetry data

Continuous sinewave interference effects on telemetry data obtained at the Goldstone Deep Space Station (DSS 11) were analyzed. The continuous sinewave interference is treated as an extraneous noise. Empirical telemetry data degradation and drop-lock models were then developed based on test data and certain physical characteristics of the telemetry data processing system. These models will be used as a portion of the radio frequency interference detection tools in the first version of the Deep Space Interference Prediction software.

Pre-resonance Raman spectra of some simple gases

The pre-resonance Raman spectra of SO2, N2O, and H2S were investigated using the 4880 A, 4727 A, and 4579 A lines of the argon ion laser. Although these molecules have electronic absorption bands in the near ultraviolet, none exhibit any pre-resonance enhancement within our experimental error of + or - 10%. Possible explanations taking into account the current theories for resonance Raman are discussed.
