Massive right-handed neutrinos in $\bar{B} \to D^* τ\bar X$ decay

We explore signatures of a massive right-handed neutrino (RHN) in angular distributions of $\bar{B} \to D^* (\to D π) τ(\to πν_τ) \bar X$ decays, where $X$ is an invisible state. We assume the new physics is described by the standard model effective field theory extended with an RHN in the MeV-GeV mass range. We calculate for the first time the full differential distributions in terms of the visible final states, including the decay of the $τ$ lepton. We evaluate the sensitivity of various distributions to the new physics operators.

Testing for coherence and nonstandard neutrino interactions in COHERENT data

We analyze data from the CsI, liquid Ar and Ge detectors of the COHERENT experiment and confirm within 1.5 σ that the measured elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering cross section is proportional to the square of the number of neutrons in the nucleus, as expected for coherent scattering in the standard model. We also show how various degeneracies involving nonstandard neutrino interaction parameters are broken in a combined analysis of the three datasets. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Regurgitated dark matter

We present a new paradigm for the production of the dark matter (DM) relic abundance based on the evaporation of early Universe primordial black holes (PBHs) themselves formed from DM particles. As a concrete realization, we consider a minimal model of the dark sector in which a first-order phase transition results in the formation of Fermiball remnants that collapse to PBHs, which then emit DM particles. We show that the regurgitated DM scenario allows for DM in the mass range ∼ 1 – 10 16 GeV , thereby unlocking parameter space considered excluded. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Hint of a new scalar interaction in LHCb data?

Abstract We explain recent LHCb measurements of the lepton universality ratios, $$R_{D^{(*)}}^{\tau /\ell }\equiv \frac{\mathcal {B}(\bar{B} \rightarrow D^{(*)+} \tau ^- \bar{\nu }_\tau )}{\mathcal {B}(\bar{B} \rightarrow D^{(*)+}\ell ^- \bar{\nu }_\ell )}$$ R D ( ∗ ) τ / ℓ ≡ B ( B ¯ → D ( ∗ ) + τ - ν ¯ τ ) B ( B ¯ → D ( ∗ ) + ℓ - ν ¯ ℓ ) and $${R(\Lambda _c^+)}^{\tau /\ell } \equiv \frac{\mathcal {B}(\Lambda _b \rightarrow \Lambda _c^+ \tau ^- \bar{\nu }_{\tau })}{\mathcal {B}(\Lambda _b \rightarrow \Lambda _c^+ \ell ^- \bar{\nu }_{\ell })}$$ R ( Λ c + ) τ / ℓ ≡ B ( Λ b → Λ c + τ - ν ¯ τ ) B ( Λ b → Λ c + ℓ - ν ¯ ℓ ) with $$\ell =\mu $$ ℓ = μ , via new physics that affects $$R_D^{\tau /\ell }$$ R D τ / ℓ and $$R(\Lambda _c^+)^{\tau /\ell }$$ R ( Λ c + ) τ / ℓ but not $$R_{D^*}^{\tau /\ell }$$ R D ∗ τ / ℓ . The scalar operator in the effective theory for new physics is indicated. We find that the forward-backward asymmetry and $$\tau $$ τ polarization in $$\bar{B} \rightarrow D^+ \tau ^{-} \bar{\nu }_{\tau }$$ B ¯ → D + τ - ν ¯ τ and $$\Lambda _b \rightarrow \Lambda _c^+ \tau ^- \bar{\nu }_{\tau }$$ Λ b → Λ c + τ - ν ¯ τ decays are significantly affected by the scalar interaction. We construct a simple two Higgs doublet model as a realization of our scenario and consider lepton universality in semileptonic charm and top decays, radiative B decay, B -mixing, and $$Z \rightarrow b \bar{b}$$ Z → b b ¯ .
