National Reactor Innovation Center (NRIC) Grid Connection Roadmap (Rev. 1)

In an effort to define the roadmap for establishing the necessary electrical infrastructure at the Idaho National Laboratory to fully support connection of NRIC reactors, this roadmap serves to identify the current forecasted reactors planned for installation at INL and provide a consolidated list of the identified infrastructure improvements that will be necessary to support testing of NRIC reactors. Additionally, the roadmap will leverage this information to establish an integrated timeline to support detailed planning and execution of system improvements. To drive this planning, requirements, as derived from authoritative sources, will be identified. A clear definition of impacted stakeholders will be established, as well as a list of risks that will need to be managed as the program moves forward.

National Reactor Innovation Center (NRIC) Infrastructure Integration Plan

The NRIC Infrastructure Integration Plan serves as a roadmap for integrating future test reactors at the Idaho National Laboratory’s (INL’s) desert Site into core infrastructure and services required for reactor operations. This document is not intended to serve as a requirements document, nor does it list all infrastructure requirements for each reactor planned for testing at the Site. It represents an overview of the most likely infrastructure and services that will be required by some or all the test reactors, as well as what infrastructure and services exist at the Site that have the potential to support and enable NRIC test reactors.

A Guide to Case Studies of Grid Enhancing Technologies

This document has been developed as a resource for the electric power industry to rapidly understand the scale and history with which certain new technologies have been installed on or otherwise simulated to impact the transmission system. This document is attempting to address the findings of the 2022 U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Report "Grid Enhancing Technologies: A Case Study on Ratepayer Impact", which identified the need for workforce development and training materials to transition new technologies from a state of “pilots” and “case studies” to “business-as-usual.” The authors go beyond typical survey-style literature reviews in that the key details and notes about each project are identified. Still, as will become evident, there is a need for more work to be done to increase the industry’s public knowledge on important topics related to the implementation of grid enhancing technology on the transmission system.
