Next Generation GPS Ground Control Segment (OCX) Navigation Design

In February 2010, a Raytheon-led team was selected by The Air Force to develop, implement, and operate the next generation GPS ground control segment (OCX). To meet and exceed the demanding OCX navigation performance requirements, the Raytheon team partnered with ITT (Navigation lead) and JPL to adapt major elements of JPL's navigation technology, proven in the operations of the Global Differential GPS (GDGPS) System. Key design goals for the navigation subsystem include accurate ephemeris and clock accuracy (user range error), ease of model upgrades, and a smooth and safe transition from the legacy system to OCX.We will describe key elements of the innovative architecture of the OCX navigation subsystem, and demonstrate the anticipated performance of the system through high fidelity simulations withactual GPS measurements.

Ultralightweight Ballute Technology Advances

Ultralightweight ballutes offer the potential to provide the deceleration for entry and aerocapture missions at a fraction of the mass of traditional methods. A team consisting of Ball Aerospace, ILC Dover, NASA Langley, NASA Johnson, and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory has been addressing the technical issues associated with ultralightweight ballutes for aerocapture at Titan. Significant progress has been made in the areas of ballute materials, aerothermal analysis, trajectory control, and aeroelastic modeling. The status and results of efforts in these areas are presented. The results indicate that an ultralightweight ballute system mass of 8 to 10 percent of the total entry mass is possible.

Program For Editing Graphical Displays Of Schedules

XOPPS is window-based software tool from graphics providing easy and fast "what you see is what you get" (WYSIWYG) on-screen editing capabilities. Provides area, analogous to canvas, displaying full image of schedule being edited. Canvas contains header area (for test) and schedule area (for plotting graphical representations of milestone objects in flexible time line). Written in C language.

Simplifying Operations with an Uplink/Downlink Integration Toolkit

The Operations Engineering Lab (OEL) at JPL has developed a simple, generic toolkit to integrate the uplink/downlink processes (often called closing the loop) in JPL's Multimission Ground Data System. This toolkit provides capabilities for integrating telemetry verification points with predicted spacecraft commands and ground events in the Mission Sequence of Events (SOE) document. This toolkit is designed to greatly simplify the user's ability to access and view telemetry data, and also provide a means to view this data in a context of the commands and ground events that are used to interpret it. This paper will discuss the toolkit implementation, including design trade-offs and future for enhancing the automated capabilities.

Window-Based Graphics For Scheduling

XOPPS computer program generates window-based graphics for scheduling and planning projects. Provides easy and fast on-screen "what-you-see-is-what-you-get" editing capabilities. Object-oriented, but unique in its capability for creating objects that have date attributes. Can be used in conjunction with project-management software. Written in C language for Sunseries workstations running SunOS. XOPPS was developed in 1992, based on the Sunview version of OPPS (NPO-18439) developed in 1990. It is copyrighted work with all copyright vested in NASA.
