Frequency standards based on stored atomic ions are briefly reviewed. Specific examples are chosen to illustrate what is currently possible. Both rf/microwave and optical devices are discussed. The present limitations to existing experiments and possibilities for future improvement are outlined.
An analytical model developed for evaluating and verifying advanced rotor concepts is discussed. The model was used during in both open loop and real time man-in-the-loop simulation during the rotor systems research aircraft design. Future applications include: pilot training, preflight of test programs, and the evaluation of promising concepts before their implementation on the flight vehicle.
A procedure for predicting lateral-directional pilot ratings on the basis of the characteristics of the pilot model and the closed-loop system characteristics is demonstrated. A correlation is shown to exist between experimentally obtained pilot ratings and the computed pilot ratings.
